Title: Key coding?
Post by: mk4gti-t on October 28, 2014, 07:07:23 pm
I currently only have 1 key that will start my car. I had a serious ecu failure and ended up swapping the ecu and clocks for a second hand set off ebay that got my car going. The set i got only had 1 transponder part that i swtched my remote and blade to. So ive got another key that will open the doors and go in the ignition but not get passed the immobiliser. Question is can i get this key coded to work so i have a good spare? Cheers.

You can, I know vw charge around £180 for a new cut and coded key. There are some key specialist around who would be a hell of a lot cheaper

You may need to get a blank transponder chip and then reprogram it. old keys cannot be reprogrammed again as the chip ( i think its called an RFID chip) can only be used once.
