Hi. Got my eye on an ED30 at my local showroom.Thinking is it really worth that extra 4k to swap. I have an 06 plate GTI manual with 40k miles. The ED30 Is 07 plate DSG with 24k.Would I notice that much difference?
-
I f you got the spare dosh then I say do it :happy2:
-
sounds like a reasonable proposition to me :happy2:
-
^^ Ditto
If you've the dosh.. do it !
All you need is a remap.. and you will be soo pleased you did it :jumping: :driver:

God yes, 4k is the cheapest to switch models :happy2:
Well worth it
Go drive it, doesnt cost nothing either
-
If you have the cash, go for it.
Obviously check it out thoroughly. No point spending £4k on the switch and then having to pay extra for extra work.
-
The 'cost to change' figure sounds pretty good.
Depends what your plans are for the car and how you currently drive yours. If you're looking to remap then it's go to be a good idea.
The standard GTI 'feels' quicker / more responsive under normal to modederate driving conditions - could be argued 'deceptively quicker'. Obviously, it's not quicker, as we all know.
Most motoring journo's prefered the feel of the standard GTI for this reason IIRC, despite the Ed30 being the slightly stronger performer.
As said, depends on your plans for the Ed30 and driving style.
-
DO IT :jumpmove:
-
-
Cheers.I will take it for a test drive :happy2:
-
i would mate :driver:
-
just KO4 your gti :popcornsoda:

just KO4 your gti :popcornsoda:
Or buy my Garrett Turbo kit :happy2:
-
I's do it for the extra tuning potential and the rarity, colour coded bumpers wheels...
-
If nothing else to get a newer car, one that is rarer and will hedge against the depreciation a lot better than the std GTI. Plus a K04 GTI would be much mre fun if you do ANY power mods to it.
-
you should :innocent: *
(* normal HPI check etc applies :happy2:)
-
If you can stretch to it, do it. Would there be much of a hike in insurance for you? I'm aiming for an Ed30 now, my philosphy is that I'd rather stretch my budget and start off with a better platform to tune.

In what way did they prefer the standard GTi? Are we talking power delivery and the differing characteristics of the turbos?

Do it - you'll save 4k in residuals in the end - compare a 52 plate 25th anniversary mk4 to a "normal" gti !
-
Thanks for your advice.I have done it! I pick it up tomorow all being well

that's not true. Mk4 gti was seen as an awful gti so residuals were poor because of it. The anniversary was the car the mk4 should have been and was seen as a million times better. The mk5 won every award under the sun and most magazines will suggest the standard gti is the one to go for hence the standard gti having higher % retained value.
If I had the Money spare with no use I would swap. I prefer the ed30
bumpers which really finish the car. Don't expect it to feel very different though. I would not swap mine for any other mk5, the cost just wouldn't justify it.

Whoooo....
