Title: Feeling like a prat....
Post by: Mrstridey on November 01, 2014, 05:57:16 pm
Hi all,

I spend a lot of my time in the girlfriends Defender or in a classic mini, and if you ever see another Defender or a mini, you have to a little wave (it's the law!).

So out of habit, if I ever see another GTI I do a little wave. An always feel a total prat when no-one waves back!  :ashamed:

Just me...? :sad1:

I used to do this in my mk2 GTI a lot to other mk2 owners. Think the mk5 is far too common for it to be driven purely by enthusiasts. Will be many years before it becomes standard to do that.

Yeah I used to do it in my mk2. Occasional nod in the mk5, but if agree it's still pretty mainstream. Also, my car is pretty standard, so may not look like an enthusiasts car.

I certainly wouldn't feel a prat though, shame on the other driver for not reciprocating!

Dave

I think general manners and interactions on the road are going away these days, I remember when I first began driving everyone said thank you with a wave or flash of the lights, but nowadays you can bet most people just ignore you. Worst in younger drivers (around my age).

ON the contrary, this sounds like a new kind of secret hand shake for VW enthusiasts everywhere. I like it... Someone does the V at you, you have to do the W back.

I've had a few flashes  and waves from fellow R32 owners, but also given a few waves and received no response  :sad1:

In my Corrado or Mk2 GTI I always wave at others, but they're so uncommon now everyone's an enthusiast!  :driver:

In the Edition 30, nah!

I'm a waver at Eddy owners.....mainly cause it annoys the hell out of Mrs MC. Standard GTI's get a nod.

Mk5 Golf Snob? me?

Remembering back in my Corrado/ mk2 Golf's, literally every other modified VW driver put there hand up to each other. Doesn't happen too often any more! Then again there was no hardcore jumped up cheque book scene queen kids around like there is now. Just mostly VW 'enthusiasts'.

I used to not only get waves on the road, but people would come up and want to look around my old mk2, most people were shocked a 20 year old chose to drive a completely standard (bar CD player) Golf GTI.

It's very rare I get an acknowledgement in the Mk 5, but we're always getting waved at in the T4 by other T4/T5 drivers.
