I have added the links for the how to guides on fitting a head unit and armrest, as both will need removing.

Tools required:

T20 Bit + screw driver
Stubby T20 screwdriver

Start by lifting the gear no surround up, I didn’t bother removing it totally.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FEDD32642-7205-4B81-BF13-0741116092B1_zpsfpxlxfdg.jpg&hash=226fe6fe3ebab0e00f2045e12beefc004c500868) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/EDD32642-7205-4B81-BF13-0741116092B1_zpsfpxlxfdg.jpg.html)

This will then expose the 2 screws to allow you remove the ashtray. The unplugs the switches and lighter socket.

The center console side panels have 1 screw right at the front. Remove this and pull downwards on the plastic and they pop out.

Now remove the 2 screws on each side.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FEF174E71-C53C-41F4-B648-20EB175DFC0A_zpspa9phpwm.jpg&hash=e7809b71fa51ba10ddde93d1a68a5252886fcd18) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/EF174E71-C53C-41F4-B648-20EB175DFC0A_zpspa9phpwm.jpg.html)

The center console handgrips just pull out. Start at the top and pull towards you.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2F58E09694-6A21-4806-A14E-E385DF70F573_zpsiwgncwps.jpg&hash=9054c1c99b672ee8eb5ac93a33bcb8d104ce7d4e) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/58E09694-6A21-4806-A14E-E385DF70F573_zpsiwgncwps.jpg.html)

Each side of the center console has 2 screws, these are a bi$ch to get to. I would recommend using a stubby screwdriver.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FABE6994C-5B55-4E32-A359-13ACB6F70FD9_zpsqcmegvcn.jpg&hash=ddedc9ccfa4ba79e9e16445908201440734b4b4a) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/ABE6994C-5B55-4E32-A359-13ACB6F70FD9_zpsqcmegvcn.jpg.html)

Remove the small rubber mat in the cup holder and take the screw out.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2F4B0A4616-C013-429D-AF37-71C74E8C2A87_zpsfhnrywpd.jpg&hash=c59ac9e1d45b946411465d26a1a1850b1bc9791a) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/4B0A4616-C013-429D-AF37-71C74E8C2A87_zpsfhnrywpd.jpg.html)
I would recommend taking the handbrake leather cover off before removing the center console to save damage. You can see with some manipulation the whole console comes out.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2F0CAB31CF-9105-43A9-BFA3-D7BEA87EA79E_zpsem3k7e6e.jpg&hash=cb8587c037d5e28a665703aec580f7c171190b09) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/0CAB31CF-9105-43A9-BFA3-D7BEA87EA79E_zpsem3k7e6e.jpg.html)

Now add your new loom, and feed it down and under the carpet.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2F3BEBF19E-9509-4053-9C0C-4B89A015EEDF_zps2xlu99ya.jpg&hash=ea362dc3b9e3696acf42b68a5dafea04f24fba20) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/3BEBF19E-9509-4053-9C0C-4B89A015EEDF_zps2xlu99ya.jpg.html)

I have installed an MDI/Bluetooth combination loom so it was just a case of feeding the Bluetooth loom under the carpet on the driver’s side. VW precut the carpet.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi992.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf48%2Fdemon666uk%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FCC9E4925-BB72-4EA8-9EAB-DC96EADE290D_zpsvzn8dlaw.jpg&hash=87ef9b3d0d1e2c282d97cc8d9db0eb2e7c98b2e1) (http://s992.photobucket.com/user/demon666uk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/CC9E4925-BB72-4EA8-9EAB-DC96EADE290D_zpsvzn8dlaw.jpg.html)

Now refit all the parts and your done.

All 3 are interchangeable except the MDI, which uses a completely different loom

Hi, I have just got my car and i don't know that much about these harnesses/modules etc.
My car only has the standard RCD 300 head unit in it at the moment.

I am going to put in an RNS 510, then I was looking at getting a phone kit (possibly a fiscon basic plus) and also the mdi module to plug in a permanent iPod that will be left in the car.

Are the harnesses you mention anything that I could use? I would just want the iPod to sit in the glovebox!

Sorry to revive an old post, please feel free to move it somewhere...

I'm planning to fit an mdi in the armrest slot in my Mk5 Golf.
There's a 6 cd changer currently in there connected to the RNS510 head unit.

I have the MDI modules 5N0 035 342 and 341 but no cables\looms yet.

Q: which cable\loom do I need to interact with the hu or can I use the existing cable thats connected
     to the cd changer?

Any help would be appreciated
