how many on here have fitted milltek downpipe and sports cats on to standard systems, thinking it was all that was required to go to a stage 2 map. this is the email I received from milltek when I enquired about buying a reducer on to standard system.
Many thanks for your email.
With regards your enquiry an adaptor is not available for the installation of the high flow downpipe and sports cat onto the OE system.
Due to the diameter differences and the restrictions within the OE system the heat build up within the downpipe and sports cat would cause damage and premature failure of the catalyst assembly, especially if used with additional hardware changes and software changes.

yes, how many others have been doing this unaware of the concequencies

I've been running milktek sportscat with oem backbox for at least 1yr without any problems...

I think if you read between the lines, there essentially trying to make you buy the back box as well as the downpipe, scare tactics at the end of day :happy2:

Just buy a bcs one.
Better and they offer reducers as well. No hassle

Sounds fair to me.

Do they give out a disclaimer to anyone buying the downpipe and sports cat, making them aware of the consequences of fitting them to standard system?

Yes its part of the warranty disclaimer
"Please note: Milltek Sport hi-flow sports catalysts are manufactured from the highest quality materials and built with maximum performance and longevity in mind. However, they are designed to work specifically in conjunction with other Milltek Sport products and should not be used on their own (with the OEM exhaust system) or with other manufacturers exhaust systems. If the Milltek catalysts are fitted with non-Milltek exhaust systems, we are unable to provide any guarantee regarding noise quality, fit, performance or warranty against their operation."

APR & Pipewerx are happy to sell you a downpipe & sports cat which will mate to your OEM system :happy2:
No disclaimers required.

+1 mine works fine

I always went on the logic of getting a cat-back exhaust first then getting a downpipe and sports cat for higher performance tune.

It was explained to me that one of the primary benefits/requirements of a full system for stage 2+ was heat (EGT) management. Their full system will dissipate heat far more quickly than a standard system and the pre-cat deletion assists in this. It can also positively impact turbo longevity for the same reasons in a tuned vehicle.
At stage 2(+) there is quite a lot of interdependence between pieces of hardware and adding certain pieces without the other may even negatively affect your state of tune, or even bring on warning lamps. From stage 1 to 2+ I tried to find a more economical route to the same result over a period of time but it would have been problematic (although probably not impossible with certain compromises) and so all the appropriate hardware went on at once. Consequently after 6 track days I've never so much as seen a warning light.
Partial system for noise, full system for a tuned vehicle would be my take on this.
You can't criticise them for warning against mis-application of hardware. They are a responsible manufacturer who have carefully developed their products.
