Hi all,
I have a friend that needs some advice, and I know someone knowledgeable on here will be able to help.
He's looking at buying a new motorbike, but the bike is a four hour drive away, so if he chooses to buy it, he wants to take it home there and then. At the moment the bike isn't taxed or insured by the owner. Obviously he can insure it easy enough over the internet whilst he's there, but when it comes to taxing it he believes it may take a while for the bike to show on the insurance database before he can tax it.
Can anyone confirm? Or maybe there is a better way around things?
Thanks

You can hire a van for the day for about £50 , get an older one and some straps to hold down the bike - Easy :happy2:

he should get a confirmation email to say its taxed and then one from his insurance to say its insured so if he gets pulled just show the email to the police nice and easy

Thanks for the advice so far,
What he's worried about is how long it takes for the insurance policy to show on the vehicle so he can tax it. Or should it be instant? Even on a Sunday?

should be instant now thats kind of the point of the new system i think just ring dvla if your not 100% sure

Doesn't matter how long it takes to show on the database. It's the whole reason you specify a start date/time when you call insurance. The cover note emailed will show the inception time of the policy.
