after a converstaion with ben@shark performance yesterday he asked me about servicing my car and how often i had it done.
my answer was when the car says so, its on variable timing. 1st service done @17k next one required at 32k(2k away still)
he then pointed out that having a car tuned alot maybe i should look into getting it put onto fixed service intervals and having it done much more frequently as my engine will be particularily more highly strung than a standard one.
Sounds bang on to me. although id never really thought of it like that.
so the question is how often do you service yours. and how often do you have extra stuff done that wouldnt ordinarily be required
ie
spark plugs(every 40k i believe)
coils
brake fluid
oil etc
I regularily check my oil level and top up if reqd, but it hasnt been changed since the last service

Both LL and TD servicing have specific criteria. If you can't meet all criteria for LL, it's better to stick to TD. I think all GTIs are stuck at LL by default.
Longlife:
- Mileage: more than 30 miles per day.
- Type of Journey: Motorway and main road driving. Mainly longer distance journeys. Constant speeds.
- Conditions: Normal engine loading - eg, with little or no towing, with little or no hill climbs. Normal vehicle loading.
- Driving style: Moderate acceleration, moderate braking, engine revs mainly below 3000rpm.
Time and Distance:
- Mileage: less than 10,000 miles per year.
- Type of Journey: Mainly city/town centre driving. Short journeys.
- Conditions: Frequent cold starts. High engine loading - eg, frequent hill climbs, vehicle fully loaded, towing.
- Driving style: Uneconomical - eg, heavy acceleration, heavy braking, constant changes in speed, constant use of high revs, 'sporty' driving.

After my K04 build i change oil every 10k kilometers, check the cam follower, and check the state of everything in general. so it's up to you, how you drive it and how much you strain the car in general. :driver:
-
I'm on T&D so every 10k, but I do an in between oil change myself at 5k, using longlife oil both times. Maybe a bit over the top but I like it
-
Personally I change my oil every 5k. Due for my first Oil change in the S3 pretty soon actually.
-
i m with gaz on this , i dont care how good the oil is nowadays , i dont do the miles so change the oil every 6 months , just done the s3 takes an hour and about £60 thats with castrol edge vw and filter and new sump plug :driver:
-
you should be running T&D for any GTI esp if its modded :happy2:
I specify LL oil at the service, and as the others have said an interim 5k change is nice too (but I dont do one)
-
i have just changed mine to t&d from long life as i only do 2 miles a day
-
....
Oil service every 10k miles and plugs every 20k miles.
Total check over everytime she's on any ramp and when servicing.
DSG oil change etc as Handbook.

Haha god knows, never owned a car long enough for a service! But mine is on T&D, and was serviced at 4000 miles, in april, and I have done 6k+ in it so service time soon, that'll be a new experience for me! I am planning on keeping this for two years to free up some funds.......for my next car!

cheers guys. up until my first service it was probably 80% long journeys. now its different, and considerally more powerful. so ill be changing to every 10k i think
