Title: Blind spot

Is there a blind spot with the mk5 wing mirrors or has it been cleverly eliminated by VW?

I usually look over my shoulder when overtaking, but I'd prefer not to have to bother.

I have noticed that if you watch in the mirror as a car comes by, as it disappears in the mirror you will see it in your peripheral vision.

I also find it no effort at all to look over my shoulder and always do when changing lanes. No real reason not to other than laziness.

I know what peripheral vision is. It's "peripherals" that requires explanation. Unless "peripherals" is a reference to peripheral vision?

Safer to use your neck and turn your head. I had a close shave and nearly got sideswiped when i got my mk5.

I saw a video online explaining how to set the side mirrors. In a short version we should set them as far as the head can go from left to right. So you need to set the right mirror with your head against the right window and set the left mirror with your body leaning to the left (almost at the center of the car).

So with that setup you really don't see any of the body of the car in the side mirrors when you're in your usual driving position. :happy2:
