Title: Front wiper arms - removal
Post by: bluo on November 18, 2014, 08:49:49 am
Hi guys,

I've looked all over, possibly not hard enough and if so apologies in advance!

How do I remove my front wiper arms, is there a specific tool or technique to use?

It's an 07 gti...

Are you talking about the full arm or the wiper blade?

If it's the arm as I suspect.

Pop the hood, take off the circular cap on each arm with a flat head screwdriver.

Wiggle, WD40 and use a good bit of patience to get the wiper arm off.

If you haven't removed them before they're likely frozen on and will take a few minutes.

Don't prize them up or you risk damaging the glass or bending the metal.

think it's a 13mm socket the nut should come off quite easily.
Might be hard to get off... where the wiper arm curves up just give it a few taps with your hand.

Ok so I've done all of that and nothing!

The arms were off about two months ago as the scuttle tray wasn't sitting in correctly so got the dealer to sort that out and put the arms back.ever since the wiper blade on the passenger side catches the rubber to the lowest part of the a pillar- almost like it's too long!

Never had that before and the same blades are on.

Just want to adjust the arm position slightly but really struggling to get them off!!

It's hard to explain but I was in the same situation.

If you bend the lower part of the arm, the closest section to the motor so that it's parallel with the window. This takes the strain off.
Now use loads of WD40 and get wiggling.

Another one is to turn wipers on and leave them in the up position. Tackle it the same as above and repeat.

Just bin the plastic nut - use another nut against the original nut as a locking nut - use a spanner or socket and just apply force and the arms will give!

Genius! I'll give that a go over the weekend and report back - thanks.
