ive recently noticed that im getting alot of wheel spin when putting my foot down in second gear.....the roads were dry and i tried it a few times and it was as if the power was too much for the wheels eventhough its completley standard? anyone come across this before?
got it booked in at VW for a diagnostics check as the epc and engine light are on but i was thinking that may be an ecu update requirement....

Bald tyres by chance Faheem ? :chicken:

Cold and/worn tyres plus bushes getting softer with age, meaning more engine movement and the nose lifting more than it used to, un-weighting the front wheels. Lower ambient temps this time of year can also result in a tad extra torque which doesn't always help with traction when the tyres are cooler.
-
epc and engine light are your first ports of call , and id suggest you dont 'push' the car until you find out why :surprised:
they may also hint at a remap on your car .......
could be one or some of the following :
poor/warn tyres
wrong pressures
incorrect front suspension/steering alignment
remap
failed bushes
etc
:happy2:

What preassures do folk usually run? I usally run them about 30 PSI dunno if thats maybe a bit much?
-
30 is on the lower end of the spectrum i think
-
So long as it doesn't hop :sad1:

the tyres are alright to be honest, only had it 2 months ! lol meant to have been newly fitted when i bought it, maybe im just getting paranoid, since those two bloody lights have come on i have got abit paranoid lol
the steering feels fine too, i have driven it quite sensibly and only really put my foot down now and then and never round bends, most of the time im driving round the city so the car never really gets thrown around at all.....
i haven't checked the tyre pressure to be honest, this is going to sound stupid but do i just check it at the local petrol station? is there a specific tyre pressure i should be using? sorry but im a total novice lol

Keeping an eye on tyre pressure shouldn't really be something you're a 'novice' at... Tyre pressure guide is on a label on the door sil or the filler cap IIRC. I think standard is 36psi off the top of my head.
-
you still need to get out and check them across the tread that they arent bald on the inside edges.
pressures too as discussed. (from cold not after a long run!)
and what make are the tyres? , cheap/rubbish tyres = easy wheelspin
you need to get a garage you trust to give it the once over. steering geometry could still be out :happy2:
-
Didn't think the golf was fast enough to get wheel spin :popcornsoda:
Only kidding!
it could be that the roads are quite moist out there at the moment...
-
I can always tell if a rear tyre is slightly under inflated as it will pick up the opposite front corner very easily under mild accelaration! Worth a check :happy2:
-
got it booked in at local vw dealership for a once over, i explained everything i have noticed, the tyres are made by some foreign company i have never heard of lol so that may be a contributing factor to the wheelspin lol
i think im just being a little paranoid, will update tommorow, hopefulyl it is not anything major! im thinking if it was it would have shown on the diagnostics i had done by a smaller garage last week......that showed up as a memory check error p0601....
-

Highly likely... They certainly won't help. I put el-cheapo tyres on my University run around years ago, never again! Get some Goodyears or Michelins on there asap.
-
if your EPC and engine management light are on possible your traction control is not working - therefore instead of it controlling the wheelspin by limiting the power you are getting full power. That added to the budget spec tyres is resulting in the wheelsping.
Firstly I would get the warning lights looked at to find what is making the warning lights appear.
Secondly i would bin the budget tyres and get some decent spec goodyears F1's , michelins or pirellis Pzeros on. If your budget wont stretch to either of them then have a look at Hankook Evo V12's - We have them on our A4 Avant S-Line (they came with the car) and i must say they are quite impressive for the money.
-
you may well have a point there mate, it does feel abit more sharp and it revs past 10 when i start it but then comes back down, even when its warmed up but im off to VW now, see what the diagnostic shows up.....fingers crossed nothing major!
-
good luck mate
-
vw just rang me, it needs an update and they will do that as part of the diagnostic which is preety good cuz apparently that can cost upto 100 quid, apart from that the tyres are abit worn LOL hence the wheelspin....but im bloody glad its sorted, going to pick it up now, RELIEVED to say the least!
-
So how comes all of a sudden your car died and needed the "update" ? :chicken:
-
no idea, dont really care now! lol they gave it the once over, said it simply needed an update so thats fine with me! tyres need replacing at the front but apart from that the car has been given a clean bill of health, im putting it on warranty direct asap too so should be fine from here on out ! :)
-
Becareful with cheap tyres.. especially from foreign country's...
The last thing you need is a blow out ! :scared:
-
So it was the tyres? Lol
-
the tyres are alright to be honest, only had it 2 months !
:signLOL: nice one m8 :drinking:
-
:driver:
-
i think scotta got it spot on to be honest, i just took the car out for abit of a run, slightly wet roads and i managed to get alot more contoll, hardly any traction controll and it felt like it did when i first got it all those 2 months ago LOL haha
yeah the tyres are an issue, first thing im getting done, thanks for the help lads, much appreciated

Mines lighting up the fronts quite often from standing starts these (not even remapped).
Lower ambient temps this time of year can also result in a tad extra torque
Animal is bang on here. You'd be surprised how much extra torque you can achieve with the "colder air" of the winter months. People with induction kits may also hear the turbo spooling more on colder mornings.
Outside temps will also play a big factor in how much work is required to put heat in the tyres, then add some water in the equation and it can take a fair few miles till you reach reasnoble tyre temps.
