Title: organising gti track day for the forum.
Post by: adamfoster on November 16, 2009, 01:53:00 pm
Hi guys, anybody interest in doing maybe a gti track day at bedford autodrome (palmersport)? i organised one for the mini torque guys a few months ago and it was a blast, was thinking maybe you guys might think of being interested in doing one. If you guys could gather yourself up to over 110+ish cars you could have the whole track to yourselves.
If any of you are doing tracks days this year and need tutition do not hezertate to call me on 07795435567 to get the most out of your car.
Anybody interest in the track day, get the main organising man from the forum to ring me and i'll see what i can do in getting the whole track for just gti owners etc. thanks

west sussex mini owners club did a similar thing at goodwood recently

was well over a hundred mini's there - it was like the sunday breakfast club meets they do but just for minis

was c£30-£40 each and they got a lap or two of the circuit and breakfast!

good idea I thought and alot better than willy waving dyno days  :drinking:

Wouldn't be the only one..

Seriously though, it will be 100+ cars for a day like that.. Would be a bit of a mission to get that many people together, you may have to hit up all of the forums.

....Only a lap or two!? - Pointless for just two laps imo.

true a few more laps would be nice, but just mentioned as an idea which would appeal to more than just your track junkies

but imo 1 or 2 laps is still better than stood outside a garage in some industrial park watching dyno read outs.. :indifferent:

2 laps.....

Think I will pass. 5 or 6 and then im back in. But granted most of the cars here will suffer from brake fade after 2 laps anyway  :rolleye:

Sorry, but I'd much prefer to Pay £150ish and have an open pitlane day at Oulton or Donington Parks.

£40 for a couple of laps - I'd rather drive over the Snake Pass for free!

BTW...welcome to the Forum Andrew

....I'm glad to say I'm not one of those. One 20-lap session at Spa (me driving 16 of them) and no fade on my AP BBK.

Sorry, but I'd much prefer to Pay £150ish and have an open pitlane day at Oulton or Donington Parks.

....Me too!

....A trackday idea is good but the dyno days are a nice opportunity to meet both friends you've already made on the forum and new faces. I don't see why we can't do both if/when we want.

To be fair to the OP, at no point has he mentioned anything about the type of day or prices.

Bedford is yawnsville though...

I agree but unfortunately it would be difficult to get the numbers to have a specific mk5gti track day if that is the cost , the mini option with possibility to buy extra track time would appease the track lovers and hopefully get more people involved.

See if this chap comes back with some options?

I agree with you too Robin, just think a track meet would be alot more fun but in the past they never seem to take off normally because of the cost involved, but if it was reasonably priced then hopefully they would get the numbers required - the mini track meet proved this; even my 60yr old mum went after someone handed her a flyer in tesco car park..she loved it  :driver:

yh the track day is around about £150 each and its an open pit lane all day, so u can do as many laps as you want.

doesnt have to be 100 car u can bring as many as u want, just if u get over a 100 cars ish there from the same group you can normally just have the track to yourselves. but either way you still get the same track time.

There were about 100 cars at Spa last month and that was fairly busy and is 4.5miles long!

yh spa is a gd circuit indeed, well i say 100 car turn up and average the amount of cars on track is around 40 most of the time considering people come in every 10/20 mins to cool the breaks and have a drink etc.
Its an msv track and all the little tracks which we use for coporate events come together to create the GP circuit, which is around 3.6/3.7 miles long, awesome track. we had  track day last month and there was around 90 cars that turned up and there was plenty space on track.
Ring 07795435567 (adam foster) if there is a group of guys that want to organise one. If anybody if doing any tracks days at any other circuit in the uk and fancies a race instructor to get the most out of it please call this number aswell.
Will be uploading some pics and vids of my F2 test in december in valencia, hope u guys enjoy !

....VWR not open Saturdays and they don't remap on the premises AFAIK - Would be at Superchips at Buckingham but don't think they are open weekends either.

TTshop open Saturdays? Most such auto workshops aren't.

....A track day isn't a race - It's quite relaxed (sort of!) in comparison to eyeballs-out, no holds barred, bumper to bumper racing. In fact a circuit briefing will usually warn drivers absolutely NOT to race each other. I sound like an expert but all I've ever done is one full day at Spa (and can't wait to go to Spa again).

Either way, you would doubtless get a free passenger ride or two (unless it's charged extra).

Spectating at Bedford would be a bit dull imo - It's not exactly scenic!

Just found a Revo dealer on my doorstep so ill be getting it done there now.

Which makes this track day idea apeal to me alot more

Would it be a problem that i havent been on a  track day before I dont want to be getting in everyones way :driver:
I am a confident driver so i dont have a problem with giving it a go plus i do have some experiance driving on tracks thanks to Audi and their R8 and TT launch trips to germany.

....It shouldn't be any problem whatsoever. All you need to do is keep an eye in your rear view mirrors and indicate and slow slightly to let faster cars pass safely.

Anyone who thinks a slower car is a problem shouldn't be on track. There's always going to be both slower and faster cars than you on any track day (or unique German one-way toll road!).

Great thanks :happy2:

Last thing I want to do is turn up and get in everyones way in my oil burner diesel :signLOL:

Any news to if and when this is going to go ahead?

I think I was on the mini torque track day with luca, it was a good day without any muppets trying to prove anything.

Not sure this may be it:

And another time @ Bedford, Aston (the muppet) tried to out brake a GT2 (driven by Richard Hammonds dad!!)
