Just got my car back from the stealers after taking it in for a rattle on idle that turned out to be the steering rack. Luckily all done under used car warranty as I bought from them in Jan. Has anyone else had this done, think it was a common fault. Steering now feels much tighter, probs due to new steering rack! Any other faults I should check for before the warranty runs out!!!!

Good to hear its all sorted, do you use Northgate VW in bury alexander??
-
no I took it to the Vindis on Milton Road in Cambridge, is Northgate any good? Took me 3 phonecalls and 4 hours to get a status report on my car yest.

Don't know how old yours is but when I purchased mine back in 2005, Vw were putting new steering racks on most of them. You simply had to say it was grinding and they replaced it. I think they eventually solved it by mid 2006

mine is an 05 im surprised they didn't do the work before they sold it to me as it feels much better now than it ever has!
Only got warranty left until jan so im hoping anything thats going to go wrong does before then!

i think i need a new rack.. what other symptoms other than the rattle / vibration made you take the car in?
plus is the car modded?

pretty much just a rattle and vibration and the steering felt a bit loose, but mine was fairly well gone! car is standard btw
