Title: Clutch Master Cylinder?
Post by: Gasman on November 25, 2014, 09:04:33 pm
Evening all,

My clutch now engages about an inch off the floor and when it's cold the clutch pedal doesn't return all the way up it gets stuck half way up.  I've had no other problems the clutch isn't slipping, no loss of fluid either so I'm thinking it's the master cylinder.  Anyone come across this?

Can you try pumping the pedal before trying to engage a gear, does that change things at all?

My clutch acts up when the engine bay gets hot, my biting point gets lower (to about an inch off the floor) making it difficult to engage first and get out of reverse  :fighting:

I'm thinking it's master cylinder causing this.

Sorry I can't help any more with your issue, but I think your in the right ballpark.

@vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) is looking at mine in January so I'll report back  :happy2:

Tried this but it doesn't change it at all.  Once the car has been running for about ten minutes it returns fine but the biting point is still low.

Ok mate thanks. I'm going to get mine looked at soon so I'll let you know what the outcome is.  Any idea how much a garage will charge to fit a master cylinder?  They are £50 on euro car parts and I'm thinking about an hours labour on top?

Thanks mate.  I spoke to the previous owner who said he had the master cylinder changed a couple of years ago so he doesn't think it's going to be that?  I'm thinking it's going to be the slave cylinder.
