Title: VW OEM Helix Accessory Subwoofer in spare wheel well.
Post by: omeydz on November 26, 2014, 05:43:15 pm
Hi. Dont know if anyones tried this product but I am tempted.

Need my boot space and am happy to swap the spare out for a breakdown kit and compressor.

Part number is 000051419 .

The blurb:

"A rich sound for your vehicle with the sound system from Volkswagen Accessories. The system consists of a 5-channel ClassAB amplifier with an integrated digital sound processor and a total output of 300 W sine/480 W music along with a powerful subwoofer. In addition to musical enjoyment of the highest level, the system sports an impressive range of vehicle and driver-specific sound setups which optimally match the vehicle's configuration The system utilises the vehicle's existing speakers and can be installed in the spare wheel well."

Looking around Iv heard both good reviews of the germans and mixed lacking reviews off the Americans.

Anyone tried it? Thought it was worth asking before I take the plunge..

Looks like this:

Not seen that one before, have you considered the underseat ones from Rainbow/ETON/Vibe?

Rear lights in the first picture look like MK6 lights, does it fit the MK5?

Iv got a bluetooth module in OEM position and seat drawers as well so not enough room for underseat sub.

And the pic is of an MK7. Will fit MK6's and by default mk5s I presume.

Ah yeah fair enough then, can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit the Mk5

Iv got a dealer to do it for me for £300 with VAT in the price and they have one on the shelf.

Iv ordered some other bits for a retrofit so when I pick the parts up Ill check the sub out and see what the quality etc is like. Really wanted to hear one to see what its like ideally.

How does it sound? Any idea if it would fit in the shallower R32 wheel well?

I havent bought it yet but if I do Ill post my findings here.

And should fit R32 boot but you will probably need to keep the boot foam to make up for the shallower boot.

Ive got a 10" in a custom build enclosure on the side of my boot and it hardly takes up any useable boot space and i'd bet my right arm it sounds better than this :)

Your build looks ace!! @jedi-knight83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4296) !! I have a Fli trap 1200w sub knocking around which I took out of the mk5 but never bothered putting it in the mk6 :/
