Best HID kit to use, anybody used or got one at the minute ?
-
They don't work very well with Mk5 standard reflector headlamps. Very poor beam pattern, to get more light on the road, you'll be creating a lot of glare towards other road users. Even if you don't care - the result is still crap. Automatic membership in chavland.
Other options
1) Retrofit original xenon hids.
2) Fit and align proper hid projectors in your current units.
3) Fit Hello or Depo projector lights for H7 halogens, use HID H7 kit.
4) Fit brighter H7 bulbs.
1 and 2 give you the best light pattern. 1 is expensive and needs coding. About £400 2nd hand including Kufatec adaptor.
2 requires some work with fitting, but can be better than oem. Stick with known makes, like Morimoto. Use a decent H1 HID kit with it, total about €230.
3 Not as good as 1 and 2. Beam pattern ok, not perfect. £300 new.
4) Cheap, but better than using a H7 HID with a reflector lamp.

I had them in my standard lights even with the h7r bulbs in they were dazzling on going traffic so i took them out and replaced them with ring extreme h7 bulbs
-
try "ultra" bulbs, they are standard H7 bulbs but shine white like xenon's otherwise do it properly and go for retrofitted oem xenon's
-
I just bought some white bulbs, same effect and a lot cheaper! sure you can get full beam, high beam and LED side light bulbs for under £50 for all of them.

I'll take some tonight, only got headlights in at the moment but you will see the colour difference.
-
Only put a HID kit into projector headlights please....or the dazzle police will be after you :fighting: :fighting:
Unfortunately no bulbs will be as bright as a HID kit.

Best bet is to fit an oem set but otherwise you want something like this if you want to fit an aftermarket xenon kit as these take standard bulbs.

Plus make sure you get a canbus error free one if you do choose the aftermarket option.

I've just bought a set of these and they arrived yesterday. Spent last night fitting this kit from HIDS Direct (5000k version) http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-35w-ultra-slim-35w-hid-xenon-conversion-kit/ (http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-35w-ultra-slim-35w-hid-xenon-conversion-kit/). I think a few others on here have used this kit with different colour temp bulbs.
I'm hoping to get them fitted to my car at the weekend along with a few other bits but even out of the car they look great. I haven't managed to get the HID kit fired up yet but can't wait to see what it looks like!

says this kit comes with mk5 golf bulb holders as well, what is the advantage of that then?

That is a really good question as I couldn't actually get them to fit the Depo projectors :signLOL:
I think the bulb holders are for fitting the kit into the stock reflector units, which personally I refuse to do anyway
-
absolutely agree with you on HIDs in reflector headlights
so do you still have to drill a 1"hole in the back of the depo's to fit the H7 hid bulbs in?
-
You do yep. I ended up drilling a 22mm hole in the screw on cap and then used my dremel to enlarge the hole as I wanted the grommet to be a tighter fit. Was a pretty painless job really.
-
Have you fitted these into reflector lights or projector lights ?

I'm adding these to Depo projectors which are replacing my standard reflectors.
