Title: Buying a mk5 GTI DSG Any tips ?

So I am looking at buying a standard 08 plate mk5 GTI dsg with 48k dsg box was serviced last december, I have read up a bit about them and have been looking at them for a while. Just wanted to know what things I should look out for, I have heard about the check if the car is jumpy at low speeds like pulling away in 1st.
Also I know about the DV going is this common ? and also I read about the cam follower going and the cam chains becoming noisy ? Can anyone shed some light on this.

I'm no expert on what is a major fault for DSG, and what can be cured with a simple reset, so I'll leave that for others.

Car revving up & down on idle is usually a sign of a failed PCV. It's a very easy DIY fix, and the part is around £35.

If the car doesn't perform as well as expected for a 200bhp car, it's likely the DV has failed. Again, not a difficult fix but a bit fiddly on a normal GTI.

The cam follower should be replaced when you buy the car, part is around £35 and there are hundreds of DIY threads, or take it to a local specialist if you don't fancy trying it. A 2008 car shouldn't have the awkward banjo bolt so shouldn't be too hard to do.

Cam chains are typically noisy on AXX engines (2004-2005). A 2008 model with the BWA engine shouldnt suffer - especially not with such low mileage.

Please do some research.

Diverter valve, pcv valve, oil consumption  etc

Thanks a lot for info appreciate it, yeah i did do some research but couldn't really find the answer I wanted.

From my brief experience just snick it into Drive and keep foot on brake and hold it while its cold and check there are no unterward noises.

Its odd driving it after a conventional auto due to the slight lag as it all engages. 1st and reverse can be snatchy untill you get used to waiting for it all to engage.

I thought all mk5 golf gtis had a cambelt, not cam chain ?
