Yeah I know I am booked for R-tech on the 6th of January 2+ :)

Would said cooler rhyme with VHS? Because I just bought one :ashamed:
-
@rtechniki (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1870) was saying that @Jussa (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2225) 's S3 was held back by the old intercooler. This Peron cooler made a huge difference to the overall figures.
Looks like we have a new favourite intercooler

I bought jussa's Ths intercooler from him. Think they had his car for testing the peron. Ths is good cooler aswell.

I think these are about £400?
Would like to know the benefits over the THS/Airtec/Darkside coolers for £180 on Ebay....

£615 retail. The £180 quid eBay coolers are not THS (£610), airtec (£600 ish) or the Darkside ones (£can't remember).
The eBay ones have very poor cores and end tanks. They don't actually cool very well due to the core plates being completely hollow with no internal fins.
The S3 we did the tests on is running a Loba 4xx turbo. With the THS cooler the most it would make was 413 bhp and around 390 lbft. Switching to the Peron and the restriction was removed. Power is now 445 bhp and 430 lbft.
Safe to say the Peron does the job.
Group buy coming soon...
-
Are they available polished
-
I'm collecting her on Saturday after being without her for over 2 months - can't wait
-
I'm I bonkers for considering this  :innocent:
-
how much is my THS worth? :innocent:

Reckon you've got some headroom to play with on that Helix clutch of yours ???

Looking forward to getting a Peron on my MK3 Cupra 280.

BIG difference...I'm VERY intreasted, when's the groupbuy happening Alex?
Who wants my THS for bargain price?
-
I'm I bonkers for considering this  :innocent:
Will complement your BT and WMI kit nicely :innocent:
-
But so will my APR one.
Do they come without Peron sprayed on?
-
^^^^ I like the chavy writing! Would even dump the AC so I could actually see it!!! :signLOL:

I must add do not go to aks tuning with spare cash in your pocket he has so many goodies its untrue glad the wife was not with me

This is true, I went there for a £99 service and spent £540. I had fancied getting the Revo intake and he said he had one and it went downhill from there :jumpmove:

seeing those results comparing to the ths(my fmic) this could be a future change :stupid:
ill always be skint mind :sad1:

Haha sounds like every visit I've ever made to AKS :signLOL:
Like a magpie looking at all the new shiney stuff :surprised:
Mines booked in for late January for one of these bad boys too :innocent:
Dave
-
Not putting a downer on it but i very much doubt there will be many gains to be had coming from the ths on a stock turbo anyway
-
I will be fitting mine next week so we shall see exactly what gains there are over the THS in terms of intake temps and butt dyno.
If you have the best hardware available then you will always get the best gains.
The weight saving is a bonus too.

Isit available polished alex

Only the black. Black is better for cooling.
-
i thought black heatsoaked more? or isit some kind of ceramic coat?
-
-
Crazy results with the no air flow test, would never have thought it could make such a difference.

Available without Peron sprayed on?

Nope.
-
Gay.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong,it doesn't matter if its got the PERON spray on as it sits behind the AC compressor
-
All these performance fags take off the air conditioner because that 10kg is noticeable apparently!

I couldn't live without AC in the summer mate...
-
It doesnt make sense to keep it if your stripping everything else and the car is not a daily, you would be a pleb to remove it if your not doing everything else though, anyhow your comment is not valid as you had airride lol
-
Having air ride is not an excuse for being a sweaty ball bag.
-
I would rather get out my car naked with sweat dripping off my balls from the heat, then get out my car parked on its sump with colour cordinated clothing on :signLOL:
-
I only tried purple laces once OK?
:ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:
-
I knew it lol

......although having air ride is an excuse to look like one.
-
Available without Peron sprayed on?
Edd China would sort it with a can of satin black spray paint
-
Just spoke to Justin aka jussa,he told me theres a big difference after he fitted the PERON ic & had it mapped, When is this groupbuy going ahead & how much discount...
-
had mine fitted about a week now also fitted cts boost pipes at the same time :happy2:
it feels like it is quicker but who knows jan 6th I am booked into r-tech for stage 2+ hopefully the car should make good power :happy2:
-
So...............................GB then!?
:innocent:

Anyway all jokes aside, speaking to Alex the Peron seems a very good bit of kit.
but my question is more to do with the value of it over an equivalent 200-350 intercooler... Darksides intercooler seems to be identicle to the THS one that is usually drooled over , but it costs £300 + vat / £270+vat with a COOLER10 discount.
Question is for what most of us use a cooler for worth double the money... for a stage 1 / 2 TFSI... :chicken: :chicken:
to me and my stupid diesel, i argue no. so i got the darkside one.. if i was going HUGE turbo with a TFSI...definitely... if i was just going stage 2 / 2+... hmm.... :popcornsoda:
-
Spoke to Alex today about the peron. I would side with you on that one Jay. Yes the peron might be more efficient and cause less boost drop across the core... but at stage 1-2+, do you really need it unless you are chasing numbers?
If I ever get around to it ill get the darkside one or S3 metal tank one.
-
It makes sense if ur upgrading from stock if your going to spend that kind of £££ but from ths to peron it ain't going to be worth it
I still run s3 with twintercooler and it works well with loads of hard pulls with my turbo setup
-

I was thinking the same too...if I didn't have a THS,I deff would get a PERON
-
I wanted an intercooler that if did upgrade my turbo I wouldn't have to then upgrade my intercooler again :happy2:
I thought it was the same sort of money for the peron, ths and airtec
-
I'm considering swapping out my THS for the PERON as part of future plans but I f I was definelty going to stay at 2+ with the K04 then I'd leave as is.

Pretty much a waste on time with FWD without an LSD.

I reckon Martin will fit a LSD if he is going down the BT route

I'd like to have Alex do a 4WD conversion on the old girl but more than likely I'll just get a LSD....unless I get another a car for a daily then def 4WD conversion.
-
What's a realistic price on a 4WD conversion? £3k - £4k?
-
It would be cheaper to buy a 2.0 TDI 4 motion and swap the GTI parts into the 4mo shell.
-
So...............................GB then!?
:innocent:
Alex has sold a fair few already matt at a GB price lol

Sounds good to me

How can you test an intercooler properly though
You can test inlet vs outlet temps but what about pressure loss or airflow restrictions / flow rate
-

Easy... get someone to map it.... If it makes good figures then its a good IC, if not and it gets held back that its not.
-
Too many variables tto dictate whether thats any good.
I did very good power with my stock old intercooler and stock pipework on my old 1.9 tdi...
Needs to be a scientific test...lab set up tbh. Or something like mighty car mods. Set airflow and distance and heat.
-
Well we know the mods and what it should make. If it flows well at stage 2+ And keeps temps in check then that will be enough info for me and 90% of TFSI owners.
-
I disagree.
The whole point of doing "tests" is that you can assess and then provide information based on evidence rather than gesticulation and guesswork. My friends car with stock intercooler and a slipping clutch made 335bhp at rtech as stage 2 cupra r
If someone else does 331 with same car and spec but with an s3 intercooler or a peron or a ths or whatever then thats to say a stock cooler is better?
Only way to test is to do it properly.
-
Ok cool.
-
Any updates on this?
-
No
-
Rich's pointless test :signLOL:
I got my car back from Darkside, as I was away on holiday all week I can't be bothered to do a big update but the long and short of it - my car did 194.2 on darksides dyno when it had DPF delete and remap.
after fitting the Darkside Intercooler before they fitted the 2260 they did another run and it did EXACTLY the same power - however it held the power longer at the top end, from 3800-5k it was about 5-6bhp up on the previous .
With the DsD cooler I'm now finding that my cruising intake temps are as low as 0.5 degrees BELOW ambient (I monitor on my polar) and recovery rates are greatly improved on the stock cooler..drops from 22-23 to 6 or 7 very quickly. Heatsoak also seems much much less of an issue, I have seen intake temps up to 45 degrees with my old cooler after parking up for a few minutes - the highest I've seen since the cooler went on in similar ambient conditions and pre-shutdown conditions is 22...
I had planned to do inlet temp logging before/after intercooler but I just never had the time and couldn't be bothered to be honest :signLOL:
When I do my write up I will post up pictures of the specific dyno graph relating to before/after intercooler.
-
Blahhhhhhh.
-
blow it up your pipe rich. :happy2:
-
Actually the only way to measure the improvement is to do pre and post fitment dyno logging so you remove as many variables as possible from the equation.
Same car, same map, same atmospheric conditions.
