Hi everyone. I'm looking at a Mk5 GTI tomorrow, its a european import (UK spec) but on HPI check it comes up as a Golf GLs.
Does anyone know if the Golf GLs is the same as the GTI in Europe?
Cheers!

My first golf GTI was an import from Ireland
Was UK spec apparently although it didn't come with the standard fit climate control just a sunroof with NO air con at all :congrats: and the V5C incorrectly displayed 5 door instead of 3 door and it was listed as a GT
All fixed easily enough with a couple of dealer letters to the dvla
If you aren't sure or particularly familiar with the model isn't there anyone more experienced you could take with you?

Also UK spec can vary wildly depending on options specced when the car was ordered - everything from xenon lights, armrests, leather seats, headunit/speaker options and so on

Cheers for the info!
Yeah the spec is definitely like a GTI - 2.0t, Tartan seats, DSG, highline dash, Monza alloys etc etc
Just wanted to make sure there weren't any variances of the 2.0t, or a "Budget gti". I couldn't find any info on google about a mk5 GLS.
I will find out tomorrow and let you know!

I had a similar issue only the other way around, a UK full spec imported to Ireland. Registered again as a GT.
I called up the revenue there and then before buying the car and they sorted it out for me.
Don't take the risk, bring a GTI owner with you and call your local car tax office.
