Anyone else find themselves getting bored of dsg?
Don't get me wrong on m25 on Friday stuck in traffic it is gleaming but poodling round town back home just annoys me sometimes. Not to mention step hill parking lol.I just miss having the stick I think or I'm going through a moment :ashamed:
-
I think you need to put your foot on the accelerator more then or stick it in sport!

Coming from a Bmw 1M to a Ed30 DSG i get what you mean nice to just pin it through the gears with a stick, but 70% of my driving its so nice to not have a clutch plus i love the bang from the gear change.
-
Love my manual, wouldn't have anything else
Prefer driving my cars as a pose to being driven :driver:  :notworthy:
-
Have you tried driving it in manual mode, not a million miles away from having a manual
-
I had the same typical view of "I prefer to 'drive' the car". But after driving a tuned 1.4Tsi VRS Fabia Infound it quite enjoyable. I think it would offer more control on track days due to not having to take your hands off the wheel.

Only if it changes gear as and when you select it.......on occasion there can be a slight delay which can be annoying, much better when it has a DSG map so I am told.
-
Yup u needa manual lol
-
I've used an M3 with flappy paddle on track and there, as Mike says, it makes perfect sense. Around town though, I prefer a full manual and there's something very rewarding about getting the perfect gear change when giving it the beans.
Its like air ride vs. static... There's no right or wrong, just what makes you smile.
-
For me it's manual all the way, slamming it into 3rd at the perfect time coming of a roundabout is an amazing feeling. I know DSG is faster but I'd rather go slower with a smile on my face. Also the satisfaction of knowing you did it rather than the computer.

And on the rare occasion that the Dsg goes wrong it may cost you half the value of your car to put right! Mk5's getting older now and it goes without saying that the solenoids etc in the dsg set up have potential to become problematic etc, id avoid a near 10 year old car with Dsg like the plague personally  :rolleye:

Yeah a lot of fair comments back! It's just the lack of "control" you have. I know you can pop it in manual but it's just not the same. Sport mode for me is far to aggressive for the roads even when giving it some in the back rounds! I'm half tempted to sell and buy a manual ed30  or mk6 gti but I hear the dread timing chain issue and with my past experience with them in my bmw 123d coupe I'm not massivly keep on them!

Get a low mileage manual ED30 all day, IMO looks better than the MK6, can have 300bhp+ with just a map and panel filter.
-
DSG :happy2: :driver:

I think that ends this topic, may as well lock it now and be done. :P

And a new clutch while your at it :P budget one if you remap it and are an enthusiastic driver...something DSG owners don't have to worry about at any stage :signLOL:

Guess your saying Formula 1 is sh*t because it's full of Automatic gears?
-
Yes F1 is sh$te  worst most booring form of racing ive ever seen, rather watch paint dry
Standard Manual Gti everytime for me chaps :driver:
-
Techinically F1 cars still have a clutch which is used at launch so they're a manual. :drinking:
-
I'll stick with my queer gears and have this as company

I've just been driving a manual for the first time since driving with a DSG for a while.
With 6 gears in modern cars you are always changing gear - I'm really noticing it now. Fine if you like control but around town...stop start stop start stop start.
I think I prefer DSG or perhaps I'm just lazy.
-
I LOVE my DSG, it suits the driving I do extremely well, effortlessly through the miles then bury the foot and it just goes.
This said, even with Sport and Manual...I do miss the old stick shift and do long for a go in a proper manual GTi.
Wouldn't swap it though...

How much does a new mechatronic unit cost these days? :signLOL:

And a DSG remap to make the box do what it should do :innocent:
-
I do love my manual, but if I was about to dump £10K into a new veedub, it'd probably have to have DSG despite the repair costs it'd suit having fully auto around town and commuting then sport mode for the twisty B-roads.

 yep im sorry im aware that the vw Dsg box is one of the best in the business but you will never take my gearstick off me unless i lose a leg :rolleye: i want my next or previous gear precisely when i choose it not when a computer decides i should have it :pomppomp:

DSG got on my nerves so much until I had it custom mapped at R-tech now its amazing so much more responsive and doesn't get undecided about which gear it thinks it should be in!

My Gran drives an Auto

I had an A3 2.0 tdi dsg when I lived in London and it was a godsend, but now that I'm not crawling in traffic all the way to work and back and can enjoy driving the car it was manual all the way!
-
Love my dsg and doubt I'll ever go back to a manual now. In fact I've just swapped my caddy van for a 62 plate caddy dsg :)

I tend to stick it in cold water and take the shell off. Nothing like eating an egg and getting a nice whack of shell in your mouth
Say what?!
