Hi,
I have the following can gateway in my new (2nd hand) GTI,
Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 1K0-907-530-V3.clb
Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 L HW: 1K0 907 951
Component: J533 Gateway H07 0052
Revision: H07 01 Serial number: 070807F2000490
Coding: E9807F0E0002020003
Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200
VCID: 306FF64BA3D6889E243-8065
I've yet to decide on a 310 or 510 or even a RNS or RCD (budget allowing) but can anyone advise if I need to ensure a specific version of any of these models to a avoid battery drain or b avoid any other problems.
thanks in advance
Paul

Your good to go Paul, I have an "L" version gateway and have fitted a version "C" RNS 510 previously and now have a "R" with no problems :happy2:
-
cool, may I ask the difference between a version C and R ? is there a list of the versions and the changes or do I just need to keep googling?
-
There's two "C" versions, there was a cross over from an lcd screen to Led.
Small improvements to screen quality, processor speeds and large storage space from what I can remember up through the different revisions, not sure if there's a list mate too be honest
-
ok great thanks for the information.

You just needed to check this list: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting)
Yours isn't listed so you're good to go. :happy2:

sorry, thanks :happy2:

how can you tell what version is installed? I have a sep 06 GTI and want to upgrade my RCD300 to either a RCD310 or 510.
Thanks

you can either pyhsically look at the can bus gateway (see the guides on how to do this), or you can scan your car with a vag-com lead/software and that will tell you the h/w number.
I fear your car is maybe too old and you will need to replace it with an updated can bus which would need recoding, eddie-nl on here or others on ebay can supply this and you have to fit it.

Thanks Paul - I am just starting on this upgrade journey so have a bit to learn. Trying to find guides on it at the moment, but not having a great deal of success. As far as i can tell the CAN gateway is a little black box located somewhere on the car. Ideally the part number needs to be 1K0 907 530 L as this will allow the 310/510 to be installed without the battery drain issue. So far so good?

You just need to check this list:http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting) for which can bus gateways don't cause the drain
its not only the L version, as for where the can bus might be check out http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,47405.msg589543.html#msg589543 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,47405.msg589543.html#msg589543) it gives a great guide and links to other sites, on where the can bus might be, depending on the age of the car.
I found a big clue is look for the "red plug", that seems to be the common thing across all models and its the plug into the can bus, but it is tucked away.
my 57reg was behind the relay carrier which can be access from inside the car or more easily from the windscreen/engine bay

An 06 GTI will not have come with an L or above, unless an ex owner has swapped it out.
The very last release of a K version doesn't have battery drain, you may have a K. Still you either need to take a pic of the sticker or get a VCDS scan to see the software revision on it.
-
Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to take a look when it's not bloody raining and i can get outside for more than 5 minutes! :D Don't have VCDS so it's going to be a case of looking at the sticker.
-
If you need a gateway send me a PM
I can offer new pre-coded, supply and fit or I could flash your old one so you don't have battery drain
-
Hello,
I managed to get an auto electics place to run a quick scan (not Vag Com) and I found out the following:
unit code___1K0907530H J533_Gateway H12
Software status 0150
I am guessing that this gateway is too old to fit a newer style head unit without battery drain
@Eddie-NL (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2345) can you let me know how much a can will cost? Many thanks!

Hi, 1st time doing this so here we go. The information given has been of great help so far.May need some further help directly but will ask. Eddie and his bits may also be needed but further help to that ends will very much be needed.
Oh this is my very first VW Golf MK5. Cool Car to drive too

so i can guarantee on my 54 plate car that i don't have the right version, especially as its battery dead on the drive after installing a rcd 310 ( clearly i like to learn the hard way) but if i was to find a later canbus gateway to buy on the internet somewhere would it still need to be coded or is it fine just to plug it in??
-
Yes, not a chance yours left the factory with a newer gateway.
@Eddie-NL (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2345) still sells them pre-coded so you can plug and play it.
