Title: how much should an RCD 310 DAB cost?
Post by: bad devotions on December 18, 2014, 06:29:06 pm
Hello all,

As the title says, how much should one of these cost? They seem to go pretty cheap on ebay but not sure if there is some kind of gotcha on that.

I am after an OEM head unit which can play music from external devices (e.g usb stick or sd card or something) and DAB would be a bonus.

any help/advice would be good.

thanks

Thanks for the info. To me they seem an utter bargain as i don't need satnav or anything and like i say DAB would be a bonus!

how much did you pay for that if you don't mind me asking? I'd happily go up to around £200 for a head unit if i get more features.

£150-200 is the going rate. depending on your cars year you may need a new canbus gateway, aerial adaptor and obviously a dab aerial

@damop my car is sep 06. I've been looking around and this CAN BUS thing keeps popping up. Tbh I have no idea what this means... Do I need a new wiring loom? Or is this a recoding issue?

@mvp12 how come you are selling yours for 150 when you can get them for under £100 on fleabay? Not trying to be difficult or anything but yours seems quite a bit dearer than market price.

Cheers!

The can gateway looks quite like a video game cartridge. It is located over the footwell.

You need to replace yours with a newer version because the newer rcd units cause the battery to drain over time, when used with an old can. You need to code the replacement to your car also. Have a read of reply #7 in this thread: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=47405.0

eBay looks bit of a minefield when searching for RCD 510 DAB head units and some of them are over £300. I have a 58 reg Pirelli golf so would it simply be a case of take the old unit out and plug in the new unit or do I need to get it professionally installed because the aerial needs changing. I assume because of the age, mine does not need a new can us

Also, have you got a link to where I can pick one up for circa £200

Thanks

I sold my RCD 510 DAB for £200 and that seemed about the going rate.

58-plate shouldn't need a updated canbus as its new enough to already have one
