Title: Brakes and handling
Post by: Sug on December 23, 2014, 07:04:32 am
Right people I'm at Apr stage 2+ On my R and also have VWR lowering springs on. Do I just go for the front and rear arbs to make her more responsive handling wise? Not too fussed about coil overs.
Then there's the brakes what make/package should I be looking at? Only drive the car on a weekend but it might as well be a good weekend

Go for an r32 brake set up, that's what I've got and works well for me.

Get some form of TTRS/ DB9 setup on there, they're a lot lighter and the stopping is immense, I had to go from 90 - 40 yesterday with 4 people and a weeks worth of luggage in the car when some tard cut me up and it hurt my face.

Bit expensive?

IIRC Alex can sort you out a big brake kit for a lot less. Hasn't @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) got an AKS brake kit?

Well $2000 is about £1300? How much is import tax?

£1300 for 6 pots and 2 piece discs all new with warantee is a great deal.

Alex's 362mm 2 piece discs are about £1250 alone...

I dont know how these do on the golf platform but my friend has a 450bhp S4 and these stop that thing very well and he's only using used plain single piece discs and basic pads

£900 is pretty cheap, maybe ask a few questions like why he's selling and if he Seems legit then snap them up.

Also check for the cost on replacement discs in case it's silly money.
