Title: Mk6 GTD 170 - Known issues?

Morning and Happy New Year  :drinking:

Soooooooo the Passat is now up for sale and might be sold later today so i i'm narrowing down a replacement and it looks like its going to be a Mk6 GTD. Other than the usual things to check are there any known issues with the GTD 170 CR engine and manual gearbox?

same position as you i am currently looking for a mk 6 gtd 170 , not sure whether to go for dsg has my mate raves about it on his sirocco

I've owned the CR170 and really liked it.

There arent any serious weaknesses with them TBH, the standard maps can cause a bit of surging when cold (mine did a bit), but the engines are really robust - loads of high milers around now.

The DPFs arent anywhere near as troublesome as the PD engines too  :happy2:

My gearbox was a bit stiff from cold, but i dont think its a widespread issue

prices seem to vary widely , dealer prices can be silly , what are the best options to aim for

To be honest if you go for the very late version (i.e. just before the mk7 came out)that would be the best thing to do because vw would have ironed out all the problems by then!!!
Thats what i did with my TDI 140

I have a budget of £14K.

Currently looking at a 2011 model with Xenon headlights and headed cloth seats, its a shame as it doesn't have OPS, bluetooth or RCD510 :(

All of those are possible to retrofit afterwards. :wink:

I have a mk5 with 8 OPS parking sensors and a RNS-510. In a mk6 you can retrofit more parking aids.
