Happy New Year all!
So as a belated Xmas present to myself I finally want to upgrade my head unit. I would prefer to keep the car OEM but the cost of a RNS510 (even used) plus Bluetooth, iPod MDI and canbus soon adds up so I'm seriously thinking about spending £1,199 at the local VW dealer to fit a brand new Kenwood DNX 525 DAB instead.
I have 56 plate so part of me is thinking it would be crazy to spend a sixth of the car's retail value on a new stereo!!
I haven't found any reviews on the forum or online about the new unit but read up on 521. So just thought I'd try posting. Also are they less attractive to thieves than a RNS 510? I read somewhere that RNS units are popular on black market because easy to generate new codes for them. Is that the same for Kenwood or does partially detachable faceplate make any difference?
Cheers

Hello, I have a DNX525DAB in my 05 GTI and it is by far the best thing I have done! I had toyed with a RNS510 but I didn't get along with it. So I bought the 525 from caraudiosecurity and fitted it all myself, including a bootlid DAB aerial. The only downside to it is there isn't currently any highline integration....it simply says. iPod, DAB or FM. But other than that it is a spot on unit. Comes with a brilliant built in bluetooth all you have to do is mount the mic. Comes with all the harnesses you need, so there is no cutting or soldering to do. Took me all of about half an hour to set up and get it working. Here are some pictures for you.

This is where I ended up securing the mic

In short, I would highly recommend it to anyone, well worth the money!

Hello AndrewWillis, could you tell me if DNX525DAB works with GTI tacho, e.g. navigation?

I know it doesn't integrate with the Mk5 high-line clocks. Not sure on those ones you've linked to.
This is the main thing putting me off getting a Kenwood as I do enjoy the navigation aids through the high-line display.

Hello CNK, as with what Rossimac has stated, there isn't currently any integration with the clocks, however I spoke to a man from Kenwood UK as I was asking some questions about the reversing camera, they are currently working on a plug and play harness for it.

Does the DNX525DAB work with the MK5 steering wheel controls (volume etc) on your car?, ive got one in my 55 plate R32 and cannot get the volume buttons to work!.

It should work with the MFSW just fine. Not of any help I'm sure. Is there maybe a setting in VCDS needed (shooting in the dark here...)?

It won't.
