'ello,
is this possible? I'd like to have my Monza's restored but apparently they are diamond cut and i have been quoted £140 per wheel (eek!). If i powder coat them then it's £55 per wheel which is much more palatable.
But i'd like them to be as close to original as possible; at the moment they are polished on the face and have grey/anthracite inners. I was thinking of asking them to powder coat the face in a silver/polished look and the inside the grey/anthracite
so yeah, is this kind of thing doable do you reckon?

Others have done it. Requires careful masking. @RedRobin (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13) was the first to do it.

RR had his done in smoked chrome, not two tone.
I've forgotten who it was on the forum that did the two tone. Looked good though

You're probably right. I remember the wheels being done two tone as well.

thanks guys - i guess i'll have to ask the painters to see if they can do it. I really dont' want to lose the original look of the wheels but can't face shelling out nearly £600!

Where did you get that price from its ridiculous?
Where are you? I might be able to recommend somewhere cheaper

Hello mate, a place called wheel rite in Chorley gave me the price. 55 for powder coating each wheel, but diamond cutting is 140 PW.
-
Mine were powder coated, slightly darker in the inners. The guys blended, rather than masking. More details here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42652.msg497139.html#msg497139 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42652.msg497139.html#msg497139)
You don't see many still diamond cut because the laquer just doesn't last unless you're very lucky.

Oh you're like 3 1/2 hours from me so all the places I know are miles away :sad1:
There must be somewhere else though, for an 18" wheel diamond cut refurb I would expect to pay about £85 - £105. Thats still not cheap but £140 is a joke.

A1 in Wolverhampton do diamond cut for under £100 a wheel but could've changed as had mine done a few years ago

Full story for mine here....

Still got mine and hardly used (just a few months). So would sell if someone interested.

Thanks for the replies all. I think I'll skip the diamond cutting as apparently diamond cut ones are a little more fragile than powder coating. Seems like the powder coat price is about right though at £55 PW. Just need to prioritise now what I want doing first! My shopping list is ever expanding! LOL!
