Picked up a set of Xenon headlights from a breakers earlier - the clips have broken on both headlights.
I've read about a kit that can be bought from Volkswagen to repair the clips - phoned my local parts department but they had no knowledge of it.
Searching under my chassis number was useless as I don't have factory-fitted xenon headlights.
Does anyone have any information on this kit? Or if anyone with xenons would be so kind as to ring up VW with their chassis number and enquire about it (or PM me their chassis number so I can do it), that would be awesome!
:drinking:

Actually, found some info here on it:

£24.80 for each side.

Hi 1J0 even though one of his packets show this is for the mk4
you need to start both numbers with 1K0 for the mk5
-
I've just had a thought.
To avoid the need to buy a Kufatec adapter - can I not just lift out the wiring from this car instead? The breakers has all of that stuff remaining. What should I lift out of the car to fit to mine?

Excellent work! I saw the top part number from the linked thread and phoned VW and they said that was the one.
I'll phone VW again. Cheers for the heads up.

Also, what do people think of this?
As you can see the lens has had impact damage and the housing around the projector seems to be damaged.
Can I use the lens from my halogen headlight to fix this? VW quoted me £175 for the lens.

Yeah, that looks fooked, I wouldn't touch that if I was you. Have you actually inspected the lights? The internals ok?
-
Well, I agreed a price and collecting them tomorrow so will get a good look at the them before actually buying them! If it's beyond repair, I'll pass. But what are the odds of repairing it with my halogen lens?
-
I wouldn't touch that either. I reckon the insides will be buggered. That's more than just the broken lugs. I fitted a lug repair kit today ( I work in a bodyshop ) and you have to make sure that where the kit screws to are in tact and if they are you might need to shave some of the plastic off to fit the kit but not a bad job really. If I'd known I would have taken pics when I did it
-
Well, the left light is good, just broken lugs on it. So just going to get it and wait it out until I can get the right one elsewhere. Only £70 for the pair including auto leveller system.

Looks to be alot more damage than just the lens though. I'd say the internals are shagged by the looks of it. At £70 quid for the lot with levellers thats not bad if you could salvage the igniter & ballast from the right light, then just look for a bare light.
Is it from an R32? Just be careful if your fitting the levellers to a GTI, as the R32 sensors have different brackets for the rear
EDIT: Can see the red stripe on the grill of a gti, you should be good on the sensor front :happy2:
-
have you got the retro fit loom?

Yeah it's a GTI. Breaker says both lights are working, just the lens is cracked, but I can clearly see the projector housing is broken, so it'll be as you say - pull the internals and wait for a faulty or empty shell.
Hoping to pull the headlight washers as well, but not hopeful they're still on the vehicle.
-
have you got the retro fit loom?
No. Is this the kuftatec adaptors or the loom to the rear level motor? I was hopeful to pull the wiring for both units and perhaps skip on the kuftatec adaptors.
I haven't seen any info on whether this is possible and will need the kuftatec adaptors if so!

2 separate issues. i have a set of retro fit looms with the shutter wire I'm not going to fit to mine if you need them

Cool, send me your price via pm.

Well picked up the lights yesterday afternoon - for £70 I think I've got myself a relative bargain.
Both lights tested and xenons are lighting up great.
Passenger side was as expected - simple lug repair needed and it'll be working fully - no damage at all to the main unit itself.

The driver side was also as expected - completely fubared!

The frame which secures the projector into position has snapped off though.

All of the internals are there though, so I'm now after a shell to fit them into.

Can I use a Depo headlight with the original xenon parts? Would it contain the frame to replace on the projector unit itself?
Or would this even be a match?

Either that or wait until I can find a faulty xenon on eBay or from a member.
-
You did well there I'd say Ross :happy2: Did you get the levellers as well?
Just wait for a drivers side shell IMO, you shouldn't need the projector, normally all they need is ballast and igniter/ bulb, obviously hold on to the lot until you know for sure.
-
Ahh okay, so would there be room for my ballast/igniter/bulb? Would I have to do a 6 oclock mod on a Depo?
Prefer to wait for a Hella shell to have consistency.
The levellers? He wasn't too sure where they were located. I said there was 1 sensor on the rear suspension, but he was adamant it was a little box above the driver's front wheel. Turns out it was the alarm he gave me.
He said he'll post it to me if I can give him information on where the sensor is exactly when he gets the car on a forklift this week.
If anyone can give me a breakdown of what to ask for - that would be ace... :drinking:

See if you can get the AFS module also, it's behind the small panel on the end of the glovebox (opposite one from the fuse box)
Just get yourself a loom then from Kufatec and your away :happy2:
-
Cheers freddy!
What does the AFS module do? Is it important for xenon install?
P.S. Iridium Plugs worked well :drinking:
-
It's for the levellers, not needed if your just fitting the headlights, but if you negotiated the levellers in the 70 quid I'd be trying get a hold of them, even if you don't fit them yourself, you could flog them on for good few quid

I couldn't see much on the AFS module with regard to the golf mk5 on google.
Is the module in this thread the part you mean? Cheers again.
