Ive got a MDI glovebox & bluetooth cable kit from DamoP and need to find a module to get it all up and running.
I have highline clocks and MFSW but only a RCD310 headunit (its my daily hack and does just fine), should I be aiming for a specific module?
Any tips?
Cheers

Ill have a 5n0 module for sale this week when I remove it from my car. It will work with highline clocks and will work with MFSW if you have a working menu button already
-
Have a look through this thread. Modules are explained in it http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=44094.0

Thanks for the link kieran but that thread seems to be specific to the 500 stereo.
What kind of usage and access can i expect with an RCD310?

I think with the RCD310 you will just be able to stream music to it from your phone. I don't think you will see any phone details on the head unit. I presume if you get a phone call or make one while connected to the bluetooth it will come through the cars speakers. With the MFSW depending on the module you might be able to use the voice dialing feature. I'm not sure about the voice dialling though. My MFSW does not support it
-
The rcd310 will just say 'Phone' on the display but depending on what unit you have you can still use the highline menu to control your calls.
The 5n0 im going to sell soon will work but depends on what phone you have , I also have a fiscon unit which will do the same as the 5n0, but works with all phones and does music streaming.
-
Thanks for the replies, not bothered about music streaming as I've got the iPod connection in the glovebox.
Highline usability is a must, it has to have the same functionality as a parrot system as i seem to get inundated with calls too and from work for some reason.

Ps current workphone is a iphone5... Whatever upgrade i get will either be apple or android based, but would rather not have any connection issues based on handset...would pay extra for full availability.

if you want highline usability you would need either a 729B kit, or use a fiscon basic plus kit which will do everything

Not strictly true as you can use of of these to use virtually all new BT modules with our RED displays

Oh yeah forgot about that option. a 7p6 unit and the above :D

I noted that Eddie mentions this on that fitting thread
'No messages with the 729B
I went back to a 5N0 version as I have upgrade my clocks, and it will do text messages in the highline
5N0 = (you must have a Highline and not an early one or you will be trapped in the phone menu. I tried this on a car with 972 cluster and mk6 wheel and was trapped. Works great if you have a working menu button. Displays on Highline + RNS, text messages in highline too and phone button works. very limited on phones that work with it
So sure the best module would be 5N0?
Unless Ive missed something (all very confusing lol.... should of bought a parrot kit)
-
5N0 uses rSap to connect to the phone, i was reading somewhere the other day that other 3g services such as whatsapp and internet etc didn't work all the while the phone was connected to the 5N0 unit, plus your phone and future phones need to be rSap compatable.
The only good thing about 5N0 is it works straight away with red and white displays
if i were you i would go with a standard module like older 5k0 or newer 7P6 and just get the other module from carsystems.pl to use on red display.
much cheaper than 729B which i've had in the past plus newer modules give you audio streaming, like many people i thought i would never need this but with spotify and tune in radio and other streaming apps i constantly use it
a list of all modules can be found here

So worst case with the 5N0 is my whatsapp and internet wont work?! I can live with that being honest but Damian has mentioned the 1k0 module which doesn't seem to have been mentioned.
I wanted to keep it OEM but can see now why people sometimes choose a alternative aftermarket kit.

I couldn't agree more about everything OEM but sometimes the only answer for getting the latest VW tech to work is an after market device, but your choice of course.
I changed my clocks to the white ones so I could get newer Bluetooth working, so I know what you mean
-
Si that was me who posted about 3g not working. Thats why I bought a 7p6 unit now so mrs can still use my phone for whatsapp and netflix on the go.
-
Why cant i find a 1K0 035 730D Bluetooth module??
Ps this is getting expensive.... I was expecting to pay between £50ish for the module so may rethink this as go with a parrot or an alternative.
-
Will the 5N0 work with an iphone5/6 and will it show caller id on my highline clocks? If so, i'll give one a go I think..... Not bothered about texts although phonebook would be good (not a must though).

Ill find out if it works with iphones. If it does you can have my 5n0 for 45 delivered. It will show names of people calling on Highline display and phonebook
-
just had a look and it seems iPhones dont support rSAP and the 5n0 only supports rSAP. Unless you jailbreak your phone and use an rsap app or get a 5n0 ending in D, but then to get that one to work in highline you would need the £100 module from carsystems.pl

So is there a way of getting this to work with my current Iphone5 for less than £150.00?
I note on the ross-tech site and these seem to tick all the buttons, I assume they cant be used as they dont have the HFP accessibility ?
Control Module Type PR-Code Protocol 3G HFP PBAP A2DP rSAP SOP
3C0-035-730 UHV-Premium 9ZW DDP No No ??? ??? Yes ???
3C0-035-730-A UHV-Premium 9ZW DDP No No ??? ??? Yes ???
3C0-035-730-B UHV-Premium 9ZW DDP No No ??? ??? Yes ???

If theres no HFP then it will use RSAP. same situation as using a 5n0 again.
You can use 7p6 kit and the 100quid module to use highline menu then youre looking around 230 - 250 ish for everything. Cheaper to get a 2nd hand fiscon
Not sure about any other modules tbh
-
So having an extra module is needed to get everything working on a highline red dash? Would it make a difference if you have an mfsw or not?
Good information on what will work with an iphone when trying to look for a module
-
Right, im going to have a punt on a 1K8-035-730-D seems to show DDP, No rSap, and HFP...... Can be bought from fleabay for around £100 delivered.
