After spending many ££££ on my car the engine now has bores 2 & 3 full of oil which I've been told is probably the rings or possibly the head gasket, also i have rubbed the bodywork with my wheels so now I also need to get the arches repaired before the rust sets in.
I'm just wondering what to do now? Do I get the engine re-built and hope nothing else goes kaput, break the car and get some ££ back or do I source an S3/ED30 engine and get a bit more power out of the K04?
Is it a case of just droping an S3 engine in and away I go or do I need extra parts?
Any advice would be appreciated. :happy2:

It depends on how much money you want to throw at your car. To get an S3 engine, turbo, ancillaries, labour & mapping then you'll probably be looking anywhere in the region of 2.5k + maybe 3k
If you're gonna keep her for a while then spend the money. If not then just put the engine right, sell the modded bits seperately & sell the car in standard guise.
Like with any modded car they can turnout to be a money pit. Personally for me I'd save the money & put it into an Edition 30 or S3 or an R32.
Good luck with it & I hope it ain't too costly whatever path you choose!

Sounds like you have had some rotten luck mate
What mileage is the current engine on?
As said above id probably get it fixed up cheap as possible and move it on then go for something else although all that said and done I do love my 2007 Gti so I do sympathise with your dilemma :driver:
Let us know how you get on

If I were you (one day I probably will when my engine goes) I'd source an S3 engine (CDL of BHZ coded), strip it back to just the block and replace/upgrade everything I could (falling short of a full engine re-build) and clean the engine bay right up. Yes it's costly but then you have the peace of mind that your new engine is solid and would handle 300bhp+.
Alternatively, break the car and use the money to fund a Golf mk6 ED35 or R20/S3.
I wouldn't bother repairing the current engine, the money/time/effort would be better used upgrading to a K04 power plant with better internals.

I feel your pain buddy, this exact thing happened to me last summer
After lots of head scratching and talking to people in the know (namely Alex @ AKS) i decided on a replacement CDL engine over a rebuild.
My BWA was already maxxed with a Ko4 conversion at stage 2+, so a rebuild working out at not much less than a lower mileage stronger CDL engine didn't make sense when your putting that kind of power through it. Obviously i now have the option to run more, safer power in the future as well. I wasn't happy with the thought of a rebuild and just waiting for something to go pop :scared:
From your sig i can see you've a nicely set up car, doesn't make sense to break it IMO if your happy with it, other than it not working at the minute :fighting:
I too had ploughed big into my car and was not about to give up on it, it hurts but you can move on :happy2:
It is pretty much a straight foward swap, just need the MAP and thrust sensor from your original engine iirc
If i can help with any other info, give me a shout :drinking:

Leave it standard and they dont tend to break  want to go faster buy a faster car simples

Touch wood, I've had my engine tuned to stage 1 (extra 33% BHP and torque) and so far it's been faultless. Plus better fuel economy. :P
