Hi My first post on here so apologies if this question has been covered.
I have a 2008 mk5 gti. Doesn't have sat nav. I was out the other day and radio and cd both were working fine. Went to a shop and now the radio and cd wont turn on at all. Screen completely blank. Pressing on/off button nothing happens. Turn volume up and down nothing happens. Not sure if this is relevant but at night when lights are on if i press on/off button the lights to left and right of main display (where you would normally select a cd/radio station) get brighter for a bit. I have checked the fuse box which is fuse f8 (15 amp) and its not there!? It wasnt there before either and it worked ok!
Any one have any suggestions. Many thanks

Do you know what headunit it is?
Get a photo up, if its knackered, sounds like good time for an upgrade :happy2:

Hi according to my owners manual its an RCD 300?1?
-
That was in mine, basic no frills headunit.
Its popular on here to replace with newer OEM rcd510 or rns510 if you want nav. Sound is way way better, 7" colour screen, 6cd, but mainly SD card with all your music on it. If you listen to radio a lot there's a DAB option as well. Updates the car no end. Have a look on ebay or the mods section.

Thanks. Not really looking to upgrade - was just wondering if anyone knew a fix to get it back working.

Anyone help?

you could always swap it for an ebay one

often a few are for sale on here, although if you are keeping the car, I would put the money towards a decent OEM or aftermarket headunit.
Without getting your one tested, its hard to say what's wrong with it.

Not really a fix with it
Same thing has happened to mine but I have been taking out Fuse 19 out of the engine bay for a couple of days the putting it back in then it works.
But your better off replacing it if you don't want to upgrade

Hi Jase,
I missed your reply when I originally posted this problem. I revisited this post the other day and tried your suggestion to remove the fuse. I took it out Friday and put it back in yesterday and it worked! Thanks very much! Now I can use my Radio/CD for the first time since December
Did the same thing happen ever again? Any one know why this works? I'm very glad it did!
