Title: Difference betwwen 05 and 06,07,08 Gti DSG models?
Post by: Sav213 on January 16, 2015, 03:44:15 pm
Guys,

i owned a 2005 Gti DSG a few years back and yesterday just purchased a 2007 Gti DSG and i have noticed a few different things between the two

1. Drinks holder in the centre is different as 05 model had bottle opener/drinks holder and 07 doesnt but already has the drinks holder mould

2. The writting on the climate control dials is different

What other things are different with my old 05 model and my new 07? I have looked everywhere on the internet but cant find anything so hoping somebody would explain on here please?

Ashtray covers were no longer matt silver, the cars glass was changed to Green tint rather then Blue tinge on the early cars.
Colour of dashboard trim and steering wheel colour changed ever so slightly from a lighter grey to a darker version on newer cars.
Boot badge design was changed from 06 cars.
Switch gear as you say changed on the air condition, and also on the multifunction steering wheels, the buttons changed look, and also positioning changed.

Just those off top of my head.. If your talking asthetic changes...
Mechanicals are a lot more

Aerial put on the roof instead of the rear window,

Fog lights went front projector to reflector,

Lost some speakers

They did still come with the bottle opener but they had a habit of going walk about

Different engine, the first GTI's had an AXX code engine, while later cars came with a BWA. The short story is revised internals between the two and some other minor adjustments to ancillaries. I have no idea if DSG systems received any changes but most likely software tweaks if anything.

If you dig deeper, you may find that things like CAN gateways and electronic systems in later cars (late 2006) are all upgraded too. This means that if you do have improved electronics then retro fitted cruise control and other items will be easier as you won't need to replace controllers and things.

I believe very early Mk 5's had door bottom courtesy lamps which were replaced with reflectors and loom deleted for 2005 onwards and many of us have reinstated.....

The other give away used to be a sunroof! Theres quite a big batch of imported 2005 GTIs from the Far East which sat around in storage for a couple of years before getting registered on an 07-plate. Got sold of cheaply by the likes of Motorpoint etc but these days they are advertised for the same price as genuine UK 2007 GTIs.

I was very happy with my 55-plate BWA engined GTI. Old enough to make it cheap but new enough to have all the 2006 model year improvements.

Yep..import unit then mate..and AXX is not a surprise there. I viewed one last September 07 reg with AXX engine. I then realize it was an import after checking with VW. Walked away and found another GTI

Just as an FYI, nothing wrong with them being import GTIs...they have a better spec (sunroof etc), only downside is no alarm but that's easily rectifiable.
Certainly nothing that would cause anyone to walk away from one if it's an otherwise good car...  :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:

True but I think the issue is paying 07-plate money for what's really an 05-plate which was sat around for a couple of years not doing anything. Also lack of alarm could affect insurance I would have thought.

So import cars only came with electric seat adjusters and uk spec ones didn't ? The only electric thing in my front seats is the part were your back sits, then manual for the tilt and the slider part. Mine sound like a import? Just not sure what you mean by electric adjuster as in does it slide the seat back and forth with the flick of a button etc

That's the word I was looking for 'lumbar'  :rolleye: yes mine has that then just manual tilt and slide. I thought as gti's had this

UK spec does not have the electric seat adjustment for slider and recliner.
UK spec has the electric lumbar support adjustment.

At least that what I gathered

Yes, but as so often with cars, plenty of vehicles may well be 2005/2006 but actually on 2006/2007/2008 registration.
I have seen 55 Plate Bora (MK4s) before.........

TBH on the old threads you linked it's just people speculating... "high temperatures perishes all the rubbers"... lol

When it comes to buying a car for ~£6k I don't care where it comes from as long as it's tidy and specced as I want
The imported ones all came with a 2 year VW warranty. Still covered by manufacturer recalls. componently it's exactly the same just has an originating stamp in another country.

hoo har over nothing. it's a better specced car for the same (or less) money. i think they all came with leccy sunroof, IMO i prefer the earlier MK5s as they have no roof aerial so a cleaner look (just personal preference!)

alarm can be an issue but as i said, easily rectifiable. mine was never a worry :notworthy:
