Have you got the ability to get fault codes read to see if your heater matrix is working?

Could it be that they haven't bled the system properly?

Mine is doing exact same thing mate, thermostat is being replaced this coming week, just hope it sorts it as to be honest im getting preety sick of little issues on this car now
Only had it 5 months and had never ending niggly problems on it since day 1
Be going to we buy any car if gives any further grief!
Always been a ford Rs nut so this is about the 1st long term German car ive had and so far its total fookin pants as is the missus 2008 Gt 140 as thats give us expensive problems also and only done 60k miles too
Rant over
Heater matrix, head gasket are few things that scare me with this fault

The GTI has climate controlled heating, so unless the car interior is much colder than the temperature on the display you won't get very warm air out of the vents.
Climate is all about the temp in the car, rather than the temp of the air coming out of the vents.
So is your interior the temp on the climate after a decent drive??

Sorry to revive an old thread
This fits my experience exactly with my 2.0 TFSI.
Thermostat had gone after being parked up over lockdown, and I’d have temp hovering between 70-90 on the dial.
However heating worked perfectly. I’ve had several MK5’s over the year, 3 with the non climate control heating and know warm air is pumping out at the midway 22degree point.
Took the car to local garage and had the thermostat changed for £320 : (
The garage called me and told me the mechanic was having a nightmare with it and it would be back later than planned.
Picked the car up and the car got to 90 and held temp perfectly.
However my heating is now not hot unless I turn the dial all the way up to max (don’t have duel climate).
Was concerned about the water pump, but taking the return pipe off the header I had water flowing on idle.
Worried I could have ended up with a blocked matrix or something else as a problem.
Hoping it may just need bleeding, although not sure how I’d do this, and I thought it was a self bleeding system.
Thanks
Ollie
