Anyone know if these are worth their money? and would I need a can gateway? or just a re program?
Thanks in advance

they are chinese models.

they are chinese models.
Yep, also say they are Delphi but EU say they are Blaupunkt.
Should they be avoided? or are they great value for money?

They're not Chinese clones, but OEM models in China.
You will lose RDS/radio station names, and a couple of minor things I can't remember.

They are completely genuine VW, just designed for the Chinese market rather than EU. Only disadvantage is as above you loose RDS for the radio. However you gain native USB support which makes them great for using with an iPod or memory stick as it means you don't need the expensive MDI kit. Great value for money IMO.
Couple of decent write ups on them here:

Oh and yes you would still need to upgrade the CAN Gateway
