Title: My First Golf, Mark5 GTI
Post by: NeilFGTI on January 22, 2015, 08:44:28 pm
Hello, So I'm pretty new to this.
Ive just bought my first Golf, a mark 5 GTI after admiring the golf for years.

Ive seen a lot of people on here doing modifications, being new to 'modding'
any advice would be much appreciated.

in particular, I've noticed a few people posting about polishing away imperfections,
in the paint and the headlights, I think this is as good a place as ay to start, as the interior is pretty immaculate.
though id like to update the head unit, as I don't own many CD's

Are, tornado red, a good choice of colour! Welcome to the forum.

Get yourself around the various boards, there's tons of information and how-to guides for a lot of things you can do (from simple service/routine jobs) right up to advanced stuff.

C'mon, give us some specifications and info about your new pride and joy...

Thank you!
Ive been having a look around, theres some pretty impressive projects on here.
I spent a long time looking for on in Tornado Red.

Its a 2trl, with the Auto DSG gearbox. I think everything so far is as standard.
the alloys were re-furbed by the dealer, also had new cam belt, tensioners etc.
full black leather interior, very complex trip commuter etc, that I'm getting to grips with.
can't think of anything else to say.
its definitely my new pride and joy, my old car was a Fiesta, so this is quite a big step up.

So, Getting the small details right make me happy,
When I got handed the keys, the fact one was missing the emblem, and the other was worn,
bothered me.

Not anymore!

I would like some advice from anyone that might be able to help with this.

The GTI Badge, and Rear VW badge, have been, either painted, or coated in something,
possibly Plasdip? Ive seen a couple of people using it for similar finish.
but the VW badge has been badly done, can anyone suggest how to take the finish off,
and what to apply that would look good.
im also concerned about the small patch of rust, and not experienced at sorting rust patches.
does anyone know of a kit that I could use to sort it out?
any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, I originally wanted a 3 door manual, obviously in Tornado Red.
but after taking this for a test drive I was sold.
The Interior is immaculate, Full leather seats, heated, with leather detail on the doors and handbrake.

Buy a new rear handle is your best way of sorting that out

Planning an Induction kit in the next wee while.

Induction kits are a little overkill on a stock engine like ours. You'll be better off spending £40 on a decent performance air filter (from Pipercross or K&N) and spending the addition few hundred on a decent re-map for your ECU. Far better gains in power, torque and economy over an induction kit. I myself run just a panel filter and it's more than enough on the K03 turbo standard GTI's run.

Thanks for that, Im not very experienced or knowledgeable about things like this.
so any advice is great!

So, Ive not been on here in quite a long time.
Work has barely even had me at home in months.

Ive been looking at refurbishing my alloys, does anyone have any recommendations in Glasgow?

also got a couple of small rust patches id like to get looked at, if anyone has any recommendations of anyone that can do it?
