Title: At last my GTI pulls like a train !
Post by: cooljimy84 on January 23, 2015, 10:01:15 am
So i got the KNOCK sensor2 g22 replaced, and she pulls like she should.

also got the main thermostat replaced, which has help with getting hot, but she hits 60, and then slowly goes above if not moving, otherwise it's 60-70 wobble, thinking secondary stat as she is axx code..

Once i've sorted the heating up issue i'll try and do a guide worthy of being a sticky...

Thanks for all help and support, you guys are awesome ! (i also have a borescope on it's way to do a before and after on my inlet valves and a can of Forte Petrol I.M.V cleaner)

You have a manual? So your secondary inline stat needs replacing? A how to guide would be spot on!! I'm thinking of doing mine.

What's this about the knock sensor and how did it affect your performance?

Yes good old manual.
The Knock sensor was intermittent low voltage, so it kept pulling the timing, which means less power.

She would pull nice for the first few second of being foot flat to the floor, then it would start pulling timing (retarding) and the power would drop off. was worse when hot/warm. a Nissan Mirca could 'ave me....

not really a how to, more a how to prove it's the stat, rather than going on word alone.

Remember some manual's don't seem to have insine stats depending on year and engine code etc  :happy2:

Well......
Mine is a 2004, but registered on the road for 2005, which make things fun. a look up shows 2004 1K-4-000 001
under partscats.info it shows under engine, item 21 "coolant cooling system" axx code, then item 21 on the next page shows a stat at the front (item 21) and one near the oil cooler (again item 21)
