Title: MFSW and highline clocks fitting.
Post by: andybon on January 25, 2015, 12:16:34 pm
Going to be fitting one of these to my car soon and was wandering if my steering wheel controller will fit.

The car is a 07 golf tdi sportI have midline clocks with steering wheel controller part number 1K0 953 549BC. I already have cruise control fitted along with a RCD 510 DAB radio with Bluetooth and MDI. I also have a controller with the part number 1K0 907 530K and have had no battery drain issues. Current clocks are part number 1K0 920 963B.

I have already sorted a wheel out and a loom for inside the steering wheel, will I need a new slipring too, also will these need to be coded in?

Also, can I just swap the buttons onto my current steering wheel, or will I need to use the new one? Just thinking of saving time messing about changing wheels.

Trying to get everything together to be sorted so it's just a day of plug and play.

BC won't work the buttons.

I have a highline one coming out that may be available depending if someone doesn't want it with the MFSW I am selling

Would that need coding to my car or would it fit right in?

It's already coded but it'd likely need redone.

No problem, take it that's a job for a dealer or someone with vagcom?

So judging by that I would need a controller with part number 1K0-953-549-BD?

It's one you can choose from yep, the one I am taking out my car is BP

So part number isn't really an issue?

As long as it is type 2, and has software 1.3 for the mk5, then it is ok. There are a few choices, you aren't locked to one particular type. That Ross Tech link gives you all you need.

Cool, will start to get everything together and find someone local to me to code them up (in St. Helens/Warrington)

Just wandering if the steering wheel controllers will need coding to each car or are they interchangeable?

They are coded depending on your spec, not VIN.
Unless you happen to buy a used one from a car with exactly your spec, it'll need recoded

That's good to know  :happy2:

Is the best way to see what is on them to fit them or can you scan them to see?

Sorry for the mither, can't find anything with the search function on here!

Not sure what you mean  - do you have VCDS access?

Just to see what is coded on the steering wheel controller. I don't, I'm on the lookout for someone in the north west area.

Don't worry too much about researching the old car, once you find someone local with VCDS they can code it to yours.

Cool, probably all daft questions, but I can't seem Torino answers for them lol.
Think the only thing I haven't got is the slip ring, just hope mine is fine!

Thanks for your help, :happy2:

Am I ok to remove my current clocks and plug my new ones in just to see if they work, then refit my current ones.

Want to make sure it all works before the day comes when I put it in and find out its dead!

Right, day come to do the wheel, and I've hit a problem.

The mfsw harness I got is too short between the 2 connections on the back of the airbag (looks like this is between the horn) tried to modify with a new wire but then noticed all the connections are different!

Part number I had is 5K0 971 584C, is this the right one or have I ordered the wrong one, is so what is the correct one?

Also I have slipring part number 1K0 971 653C. Will this work, or will it need changing?

5K0 is for a mk6 wheel

You want 1K0971584C

:(
to top it off, swapped controllers over and nothing  on the wheel worked, power steering light was on so swapped back and light is still on! Even took it for a drive and it's still there.

Coming close to giving up on this now, really frustrated with it!

Looking through eBay they all seem to say mk6 golf, can't see any for a mk5!

Steering wheel controller must be coded. Its not just plug and play. Than Basic settings etc.

Just out of intrest if I am to go back to my old clocks (when I come to sell the car) can I just refit my standard clocks and steering control module over without coding, or will they need to be recoded in to the car again?

Also the mute button doesn't work on my wheel, is there a fault somewhere?

just plug them both back in, but your mfsw may not work if you change your controller back to standard.

That's good to know.

It's just for when I sell the car, I will be stripping it back to as standard as I can, still not done the clocks yet as the lad who was doing it, his version of vag commander wasn't working so we couldn't do the clock swap.

when u do change it back to standard,  you may need to reset some of the errors with vcds as you would have removed the steering wheel.

That's not too bad, I know when I swapped the wheel over last time I didn't get any warning lights that appeared so I'm hoping it shouldn't be a problem.
