Got the dreaded diesel sound and I'm thinking of buying the parts and getting my mechanic friend to do the job to save on £££'s. Can anyone tell me the part numbers for my 2007 (57) Ed 30 DSG and if anyone knows the best place to get the parts, I have a halfords trade card so was thinking there.

Didn't know this problem affected edition 30s :scared:
Only seen AXX engines affected on the forum so far

A friend of mine is putting his '06 GTI in this weekend to have the same job done.. it's BWA engined apparently!
-
could do with mine doing to. But I've heard differing stories. Some say it's the injectors. My local vw dealer says it's nothing to worry about as its normal apparently.
-
Mine definitely sounds better after i changed the cam chain, tensioner & adjustor (AXX).
This is what i bought
chain - part no. 06D109229B
tensioner - part no. 06F109217A
gasket - part no. 06D103121B
seal - part no. 06E127248
gasket - part no. 06F103483D
Adjuster Bolt - part no. 06D109281D
-
Mines an AXX engine too, only covered 40k miles. What kinda cost are ya talking just for the parts?

Yeah I've read that write up before. So what's the definitive answer? I'm even more confused. Replace all of the above and cam shaft adjuster kit or just the adjuster kit?? All I want is an answer to get it sorted.

Get in touch with Dazza (mod on here) he's right up to speed on this problem he posted an interesting thread on this warts in all!

@dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) drop me a PM mate with your knowledge on this! Cheers

@GTi-Andy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10725) at first i was not going to replace the adjustor but i rounded off the bolt holding it on. And f*cked it up when drilling it out.
Here is the thread the guys on here helped me get it sorted.

How she sounded before http://daz.co/audio/open.mp3
After http://daz.co/audio/carnew1.mp3
TBH she sounds even better now without the engine cover.
Andy are you going to change it yourself? If so i can send you the VW bit for the adjustor bolt and the sh*tty cam locking tool. (I was recommended not to use this as it may flex slightly)

Had this problem on my 2006 bwa gti. Total cost was 800 odd at vw for it all doing
-
Dazza, if i could borrow that around April time that'd be great!
Put the car in twice for cam adjuster replacement to a VW specialist and twice it came out without it being replaced. Going to a trusted Renault specialist in April when I go Hawaii so would likely be beneficial to him to save him buying one (And might keep my costs down!)
-
I'll take you up on that please @dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) I won't be doing the job but my mechanic will. Cheers
-
No worries. Maybe a small deposit can be left then they get passed onto the next member etc.
The cam lock and VW bit came to £80 in total.
-
@dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) I'm seeing my mechanic tomorrow and I'll ask him if he's up for doing it, so I'll be in touch. Cheers.

Ive decided that Im going to down the route of replacing the chain, tensioner and cam adjuster
Take a listen of this guys and let me know what you all think?

The recording is made after the engine has warmed up and reached 90 degrees

I think your making the right choice with that one.
-
Yeah mind is made up Daz, just need to source the parts now.
How long did it take you from start to finish would you say?

I f*cked it up mate. And had to wait for parts from the UK so it took about 10 days lol. If i had to do it again i think i could get it done in 4/5 hours. I'm not a mechanic so they could probably get it done a lot quicker.

Cheers for that Daz
