Title: Replacement wing mirror indicator lense
Post by: Lyons on November 24, 2009, 11:42:22 am
From looking at the wing mirror it doesnt appear that the indicator lense can be taken off seperately, but this ad on ebay suggests it can;

Has anyone had to replace a broken lense before, or is it possible to remove it without replacing the whole mirror?

Is it easy enough removed, or does the mirror housing need dismantled?

Is the temperature sensor located in the OS indicator or have I been mis-informed?

I have recent experience of this having just fitted the Inpro smoked indicators to mine.  It takes about 10 minutes to do one mirror.  The hardest part is popping off the casing but other than that its just a case of removing several screws.

You start buy pulling the mirror glass out, remove a couple of torx screws to remove the motor (circular plastic disc that the glass clips to).  Disconnect the motor wires.  Then if memory serves you pop a couple of clips to release the painted cover vertically.  Then a couple more screws to split the remaining mechanism away from the lense and finally a couple of clips to release the lense itself and disconnect the wires again.

Easy!   :happy2:

Just take you're time and don't force anything.

Easy enough pulling the mirror off without breaking it? Literally just pull?!

Yeah.  Adjust you mirror downwards to expose as much of its upper edge as possible and then just put something flat (screwdriver) behind it to pop it out.  It takes no effort as its only held on by a couple of spring clips so will come out easy.  Just be careful not to mark the painted case with the screwdriver.

Then disconnect the two wires  :happy2:

BTW the ad on eBay appears to be for a N/S (passenger) indicator, not an O/S as listed!
