Title: Help! i think i may have a big problem
Post by: Deedub on January 31, 2015, 01:36:39 pm
So my car has been running fine since i got it 4 years ago, still runs well but i since i've had it the oil cap has missed the top making in awkward to get into, i finally bought a replacement and went to fit it today, when i removed the old one i got a shock,  the oil (that i can see) looks more like grease and is quite thick. I had a car before (old Escort) and the engine seized on me unexpectedly after the engine oil had got thick as mud and low (Light didn't work), i had never checked it as it was my second car and only a few years old (back in 1999).

I'm now very worried what this could mean for my engine.

It's 2007 gti, i topped up the oil maybe 3-4 months ago and all was well.

There is a lot of posts on here about this.

Maybe too many short journeys? Italian tune up once a week.

As Dazza said, if you only do short trips its fairly common this time of year to have a bit of mayo.

Thanks, sorry i really didn't this would be that common and i got a bit panicked.

I only drive it to work and back, the morning drive is 5.30am and the car only just reaches norm temp a mile or two from work.

It's due a service anyway so maybe bring it forward a couple of months.

If you have any gunk at the moment give it a good run and see if it clears it. Some before and after pics would be good.
