I am selling my tdi golf and had someone come and look at it tonight.
He wants the car and has agreed a price with me but he is from Northern ireland and has told me that he cannot withdraw cash from any branches here as he banks with first trust and they don't have any branches in Aberdeen and can only withdraw £250 a day so it will take him over a week to get the money. I suggested a bank transfer but he told me that he has not got his card reader to do online payments.
He has asked if I would accept paypal but I'm not sure if this will be safe.
It's for just under £2k
Any way I could get scammed If I accept PayPal?
Would there be any issues if I asked him to send payment by gift?

If he sends it via gift then he has no comeback so you won't have any issues.

I would watch that. If he uses a credit card he can claim at a later date with the credit card company and then paypal open up a case but its out with paypals control. I had it with a mobile phone i sold. No complaints then 3 month later this happend but luckily i had sent special delivery and had kepted the receipt. But i looked in to it more and there seem to be alot of people being scammed this way. If he pays as a gift then no problem though.

Total rubbish - don't do it .
He hasn't got the money , he wants to pay by credit card for a private sale .
If he has the money he can get someone else to bacs you the money and he can bacs the money back to them when he gets back
If he pays by gift on someone elses account you won't get the money .... :innocent:

I'd be telling him to do one,

He has now got back to me saying that he can get the cash by Thursday

For that sort of money don't go through paypal bank transfer or cash :happy2: just under 2 grand and going to potentially by put a car with no cash I would tell him to :jumpmove:

Northern Irish people are exceedingly trustworthy. Don't worry

Don't take payment using paypal for any item that the buyer is going to personally collect from you...

Why doesnt he go into his bank at home, withdraw the cash and then come over with it??
