Hi
As a newbie to the MK 5's can someone help with what to go for, coming from a mk4 tdi that didn't really get much use (local miles) I am now considering the GTI petrol version over the gt tdi 140.
I like the diesels however during the week the usage is very small runs, which I am led to believe is not much good for diesels, could someone please jump in on this thread and share their experiences with either the 140 or the petrol.
Cheers

I went from a GT140 to an ED - it depends what you drive really, I'd go for a GTI if MPG isn't an issue but you are right, I got rid of the diesel as I was doing 4k a year in it.

Thanks for the reply...MPG isn't really much of an issue due to the low mileage. Out of interest how did you find the 140?
Thanks

Hi we have both, mine a 2007 Gti and my wife's a 2007 Gt tdi 140, both are fantastic cars but if mpg isn't a problem then deffinately go for the Gti as just so much nicer/smoother to drive etc
Gti gets 30-35mpg average and Gt tdi around 50mpg and half the tax bill of the Gti at £140 a year
Hope that helps :happy2:

Hi
Thanks for the post its good to hear especially as you have both, the gti is also cheaper on insurance for me over the diesel for some reason...still not complaining

Definately get the GTI if you are only doing low miles. I had a diesel Audi A4 for nearly 3 years and it was a very long 3 years!
