I bought a golf gti edition 30 about 2 weeks ago from a independent dealer. Since I have had the car found a few worrying problems with it. The rear right caliper is sticking and the front discs and pads are squealing really bad a friend had a look and said one off the discs has had it. Also I have noticed a knocking from the gearbox that sounds like a release bearing or input bearing also there is a high pitched whistle coming from the engine under under boost which I guess could be the turbo giving in or a diverter valve. I bought It about 30 miles away from my house and they won't look at it till wednesday I am guessing they will try blag me off as they were not very helpful on the phone. I have not drove it much what rights do I have If I am not happy with the car?

It also seems like is missing can feel a judder in the driver seats

Brake discs could be warped? Rear calipers are known to stick I've had to change mine.
Search on Google used cars sales of goods act, have a read of it. When you take it in give them chance to rectify the problem.mifnthey are being funny explain the sales of goods act and that you know your rights, some people will try take the kiss if they think they can get away with it.

No was on visa debit card mate

The key thing is to have a written record of what is wrong with the car and what you are asking for eg refund or repair.
Phone calls and verbal agreements can be open to dispute.
Follow up your phone call with a letter sent recorded delivery.

They are not now vw garage so I am not sure they will be up with the common problems, thats whats worrying me and I don't want to pay vw to inspect it if possible

You could just take it back and ask for a full refund.
If you really want to keep the car and get it fixed, it might be worth paying for an AA inspection of the car. This would give you an independent record of the faults that would need to be rectified. They might find other things wrong and or dangerous.
You could try to claim cost of the inspection back from garage but this might be more difficult.

Write to them by recorded delivery saying that the car if faulty - list the faults - and that you want a full refund. Tell them car is available for collection from your address. Don't use the car in the meantime. If they don't give you a refund you can take them to the small claims court - that's why everything must be in writing.
It would be worth getting the AA inspection to have an independent record of faults - you would be able to claim the cost if you take them to court.

I would get that inspection done. If you go to the garage with a list of faults found by the AA they wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court and they would be stupid not to give you a refund -

The only thing mate is they can't investigate the faults in the gearbox and the turbo it will need to be stripped down and to prove this?

Quite right nobody is going to strip parts down. The AA do run a road test and the turbo is on the list of things they check.

I think it would be better taking it r tech maybe because they will know a lot more I am sure

As said get the points down in writing. Do give them a chance to rectify the problems. They may be simple fixes. The brakes are wear & tear items so it's not a major flaw with the car. Hopefully they'll put the stuff right & you'll get back to enjoying the car.

I work in an independent garage (a decent honest one I might add)
You MUST give them the opportunity to rectify the faults before you take it anywhere else
If they don't sort the faults then return the car under the goods not fit for purpose act

They wont give me a courtesy car and expect me to drop it off there and leave it there. Its 38 miles away from my house and I have no way of getting back and I won't be able to get to work for the rest of the week :/

Just a update the had it for 3 days and never even looked into the gearbox noise and its clearly still there, also loads of movement in the gear stick when letting off the power, could this be a gearbox mount??
