Is it me or are the asking prices of Ed30's starting to get a bit silly?
Im looking to get one but MK6 GTI's are looking better value every day.
Looking online there are traders asking £12k plus and private sellers trying to get close to 10k for cars with nigh on 100k miles. Saying that though most of these have been on sale for months.
Thoughts people?

They are holding their value very well, I think there's only about 2400 or so (produced) so less on the road now. Because the MK5 was so good they're still quite a sought after car, personally I'd rather have a low mileage ED30 than a MK6 GTI.
But yes some people definitely overvalue them, I think there was a post a while ago of a trader asking like £16k for an ED30 with lowish miles and decent spec. You should be able to pick up a nice one for 10k - 11k maybe a bit more for a real mint one.
-
Mines was 10k on 74k miles, full VWSH and nearly every optional extra - I'd say some people definitely do try & take the piss, but at the end of the day they are a special edition and will hold their value provided they've been looked after :)

Not sure what your going on about??
You can have mine for £25,000 :innocent:

Having just sold my ED30 this week - fully loaded with OEM spec (and I mean that), you should be looking at £9-10k for a good car on private sale, and £10-10.5k at a garage - this also depends on your locality.
There are many factors too, mine for example had loads of proactive maintenance and I sold it possibly a little cheaply in the end but I saved on advertising, and in that factored in some little blemishes that the buyer was happy to deal with as people can have different perceptions of 'mint'. Also eradicating idiot tyre kickers and so on which is a disruption with a bairn and a pregnant wife.
Adding on all the subtle mods I had then removed, I got an overall price I would never have gotten selling as it stood two weeks back.
I should also say that there are many people looking to buy who just don't know the going rate for a good ED30, or are seriously trying it on.
You won't get a good car for CAT C/D prices unless the owner is way off the mark.
-
I'd love to see how much high specced' Candy White Edition 30's will be in 15 years, will they be an early classic?
I'd like to think so for those of you with them  :innocent:
-
An Ed30 is a better car than a Mk6 GTI so thats why its holding its value, same as the Anniversary Mk4 . Limted numbers will always keep prices higher , i would recommend one if original as a long term minimal depreciating car . I think you will see them go down to about £7k minimum , thats up to about 20 years old and then they will go up. They have the same following and enthusiast type craving like the MK2 RS2000 had , which i had too . I wish i still had both .
-
It's a difficult car to value, in my opinion. I've always found prices to be all over the place.
There are so many factors, and with it being a car where options do actually add value & desirability - people tend to reflect this in their asking price.
Mine was bought in 2012 at 47k for £12995 from VW - strong money at the time, but mk6's were stupid money. Today, I wouldn't change my mk5 for a mk6 - the gti isn't special enough in comparison, but an R would be tempting. Mines currently on 66k, and if I were to sell, it would be up for at least £9.5k due to condition and specification.
As the cars get older, it's all about condition and history, IMHO

What was the milage and owners mate?

Haha yep, sure do! Had it six months now :) Insurance was only £886 lol

I have been looking for one to keep for the last couple of years!
In that time I have only viewed 2 physical cars, neither deal was quite right for me at the £....
Other than the very good cars I viewed, many of these cars seem to be optimistically priced. Private sales with imminent cam belt service up at dealer prices!
Nice private sale cars bought by dealers and then immediately re advertised at £13k+ only to remain unsold for 6 months plus?
I would not consider a mk6, I have no interest in the cam chain issues and VW's apparent nonchalance to address the problem. An Ed35 is priced too closely to a Mk7, which doesn't make sense to me at least.
I saw an ad for a Mk7 performance pack for <£20k last week, for a car that is 6 years newer I may end considering one of those if a nice Ed30 isn't purchased.
-
Mmmmmmm, a few months back my dealer offered me 7.5K for my Candy white, 3 dr, manual, one owner, full history car.
It's got sunroof, xenons, and at the time had 47,000 miles.
Didn't take it..

It's considered less of a problem on later models or you could find a MK6 that's had a new engine. The ED30 has more tuning potential but the MK6 is going to be a little cheaper to run and is a slightly nicer place to be internally and externally. Not much to choose between the two...
As you've noticed used ED35 and 6R prices seem inflated so I say go for a MK7 GTI PP.
-
I bought mine last year and paid a fair price. I didn't want a modified (or 'returned back to standard') so it took a while finding one in the spec I wanted. all the cheaper ones were off the mark, so when I did find one I was happy to pay a fair price.

^^^^^^^^^ this, guys just look at mk2 golf 8 or 16v I was after one but after most in half decent condition are 5k+ I refuse so will go the non gti. Same principle with the eddy and I own one too. Only going to go up as that's what the trade seems to be doing at this point of economy.
-
I don't think mine will never sale lol

I recently bought my standard Tornado red Edition 20 3dr Dsg with a pioneer sat nav/dab/phone touchscreen headunit, luxury pack and convenience pack only had 2 owners the first owner had it for the majority of its life. FVWSH with stacks of papers had 72K on it and I got mine for £8400 which I thought was a good deal. :happy2:

I had that itch as well, to sell and fund on an 6R, but like the mk6, the car just feels muted compared to the mk5 Ed30.
Tends to drive a few mpg more due to its weight gain, the only thing going for it is its non wheel spinning starts.
I think the mk7 GTi with PP would be a good bargain in just a few years, Same with the 7R once the first 3 years depreciation comes in making it a worthwhile jump up.

I sold my 5 Door 60k miles Steel Grey ED30 DSG minter with full FVWSH, all the big work done (new Mech unit etc) and all the options (bar RNS 510, had MFD2 instead) for £12k in November.
It was so good I had bought it off a VW dealer the previous year and I do believe it was worth that! But who knows, a car is worth whatever someone will pay for it, and I got £12k! I miss it like mad though but I had an Audi S Quattro itch that needing scratching!

Kinda find that hard to believe if its on your own insurance lol
-
Then hard to believe it is i guess lol.. Fully comp under my own name. My mum & dad are named drivers..
-
My sister is 19 has 2 years no claims and pays more than that on 1.2 fiesta lol and she lives in a good postcode with mum on insurance
-

I don't believe the price of your insurance either - It would be good information to share on this forum as to how it is so low , what company you are with etc .
My daughter is 25 in May - Her best quote for a ED30 with both me and my wife on Insurance and 5 yrs NCD is £600
-
I can believe it. When I was 18 I had a mk3 998cc fiesta with alarm and I had pass plus and that cost ~£900 TPFT and 1 years NCB with Norwich Union (AVIVA). The ex had a 1.6 MG TF after passing and driving Corsa for 6 months, no pass plus and was just under £800 fully comp all in her own name. That was before the equal insurance premium rulings and black boxes

Don't believe me if you like haha, at the end of the day I'm the one that's not having to pay out a fortune which is why I actually have an ed30 at my age haha.. I don't know why I'd lie about what I pay out? Surely I'd be saying it was more so I look like I'm loaded :P
I'm with Bell - they do a 3 month plug & play thing.. I've still driven the car how it should be driven though as there are no curfews and they can't put the premium up (only reduce it if I'd driven well)
Fully comp, excess is quite high.. I'm in a glasgow postcode. I also own another car (puts insurance down), have it parked on the street too which is cheaper and only cover 5k miles a year. I also put the value of the car up to 11k rather than the 10k i bought it for, that dropped my premium by a massive £200 somehow. I also insured the car in November - I bought it in August. The longer you've owned a certain car the cheaper your insurance will be on that car in specific. It's all to do with statistics etc etc.

As long as you keep your car standard as Bell don't insure modified motors ;-)

+1 glad mine is only 200 a year or id be pissed with 10 years no claims..

As someone in the market for an ED30, the prices seem all over, especially in such a slow market. Took me some patience to sell my 2007 S3

Some people are on another planet. £8500 with 100k miles. Not a chance
-
I know mine isnt an Edition 30 but still the spec was high - Heated Leather Wingbacks, Manual, Highline, MFSW, Xenons, 3 Door, Candy White, 18 Monzas - all with one owner and FSH
Never been crashed or abused all for £3750! Although the mileage is as high as the spec now knocking on 170,000 but still tight as drum and running sweet
Some of the prices asked are excessive compared to my bargain but if you look carefully they are out there
-
@stuf, man that's a great buy. I'm sure it hasn't passed you by that the part value of your seats and lights probably mean you got the rest of the car for free. Back on topic ....I don't see ed30s dropping much past 6k unless accident damaged. I remember many years ago Golf Rallyes could be found at less than 5k....and now?

My old one is for sale in milton keynes, Absolutly mint car 335bhp R-tech.
