Title: Diesel Pre-Cat
Post by: D_Philli_82 on February 11, 2015, 01:33:30 pm
Hi,

Fancy trying to do a pre cat delete...I've seen the DIY link on this site but want to check are the bolts/gasket that should be replaced the same for tsi, tdi, gti etc..??

Does removing this give the high howl sound or is it the main cat removal that does this..? Want a touch more grunt etc but not a ridiculous howl..a small bit is fine

Cheers

No pre cat on a TDI.

The choo noise is the rear section (cat back) if you remove the cat then you won't get the annoying choo anymore which is a good thing.

basically.

Decat = no choo noise
Stock cat with no silencers = choo
Decat and no silencers = no choo noise

Ahh....but a decat is a mot fail right...so a sports cat is needed instead..?!

Technically yes.
In reality, no.
No sports cats available for a diesel.
as you arent measured on emissions you have no need.

Revisiting this...I enquired about getting a decat but the company I went to said they don't offer them as its a MOT fail... @xjay1337 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7542) do u have a decat and if so where from and who's your MOT tester..?!

I have a miltek decat on my bkd and passed mot.
I guess it depends on tester, even though the rules should be clear.

You'll be fine if you are friendly with a garage.
I have a massive 3 inch downpipe and passed MOT fine..  :notworthy:
I use a garage in Newbury for my MOT's

Lol silly ques I guess...I guess the fact the place in question make custom exhausts and are an mot tester their hands were tied...and they tried to upsell me a £500 cat back...do these cat backs make any difference to performance at all?? I assume not as it'll still flow air into the cat where the restriction lies!

I just want some custom tips welded onto my existing box and a de cat...more than enough for me.

Nope.
Not really much performance gain from Stage 1.
As long as it's mandrel bent it'll be fine
I had a piper exhaust on my 1.9
