Title: Standard air intake trim

Hi guys not had my gti long. Around 2 months now. Not long after I had it I noticed that the trim that fits on top of the intake which screws into the grill was missing. Went to TPS and replaced it. Couple of weeks later and it's missing again. When I fitted it it clipped in tight and felt really rigid. Is this a common issue that they keep popping off? Seems strange. Other thing is I can't find it anywhere in the engine bay unless it's found its way to the back of the undertray

It will be lodged in the engine bay somewhere so I would take the undertray off and have a good luck. I never had an issue with mine.

I had this problem with mine when i bought it.

First thing i would suggest doing is pulling off the engine cover, not hard to do. Then check that either the engine cover has all the mounting points all intact and have all 4 rubber grommets that sit in the engine cover and then push onto the previously mentioned mounting points. Making sure these are all in place will help certify that your engine movement isn't causing your engine cover to work its way off and then causing the air intake cap that you mentioned to work its way from the mounting position.

To go even deeper into this you could reduce engine movement by looking at the engine mounts such as the doggone mount which i believe is the one that helps most with engine movement? Correct me if I'm wrong..

Hope that helps. I had the same problem with mine but my engine cover was also cracked in a few places and had 2 out of 4 engine mounting holes cracked which then obviously worked its way free end creating the problem with the air intake.

Thanks for your reply Carl. When I noticed it missing the first time I checked the engine cover and found one rubber mount missing. Went to TPS and got 4 new ones and refitted the engine cover properly. The second time the trim has disappeared is with a secure engine cover. The intake appears to be fitted correctly. It's a strange one
