Title: Front strut bolts
Post by: ruhaleali on February 18, 2015, 08:07:33 pm
Hi guys,

I had purchased coilovers for my mk5. Having fitted three, the front right was the last left. However, the 3 bolts from uptop that hold the strut up haveheavily rusted from underneath. The garage has struggled to get these out. What is a possible solution ? As If i can remove then how much are these screws, and my new suspension will be complete. The garage spent 2 hours and wasnt able (vw specialist).

Drill it off from the top. If you drill off the head you can remove the strut  :happy2:

I had to do this with one of mine

Thank you for the info ! Real pain in the ass! How did you get the plastic off that is under the windscreen wipers ? Many thanks

Remove the front wipers and it unclips from below the windscreen.
If your VW specialist doesn't know how to do that I'd be a little worried about them fitting suspension!  :scared:

Also if you can't get the three bolts out from the top mount you may need a new top mount as the captive nut on the bottom may have snapped off, had this happen on a few car's I've changed suspension on.
