Just wondered what the average price was for a new car detail. Just about to collect a pre-reg car I have bought. Its been registered for three months, but is basically a brand new car. I have been considering getting a new car detail for it to help start it off the right way. Also, does anyone have any recommendations of good places for this somewhere not too far from the Bournemouth area in Dorset?
-
Depends what you're after, for a golf sized car and full Gtechniq inside and out paint/ wheels/ glass/ seats/ mats we charge somewhere around £500 at work.
That includes washing/ prep. Full machine polish. Full protection and normally takes 2-3 days.
-
@dansmith180 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9450) whereabouts are you based?
-
Elite car care in Maidenhead Berkshire, so pretty far from you.
-
Yeah that's a shame mate. Needs a full paint restoration on mine, it's looking pretty sorry for itself
-
I'll ask tomorrow if there's anybody we can recommend over your way.
-
Cheers Dan. Much appreciated

Cheers, but wow that's more than I thought. I hoped it would be less for new cars. Anyway, its really just the paintwork I would want doing, not the interior. That might help.

Problem is new cars can be sh*t. People think because its new the paint will be perfect (I used to think that) and it should be perfect since that's part of the reason for buying new.
We've done new cars that have needed 2 days of polishing because they came with flat marks/ scratches/ holograms/ pigtails (from DA machine) and other bits. Problem is the dealerships have an in house "detailer" who is normally a polish bloke on sh*t pay who has 2 hours to wash and polish a car so it's worse than when he started.
Even a basic 1 day wash/ quick polish/ wax would set you back around £250.
Also on a 3 year old car it would be more like £850 since it's a full weeks work.

I have had my car done by http://www.g3valeting.co.uk/ in the past They are based near Sherborne but are also mobile. They provide a very good service and his regular clients have some pretty prestige motors.
Where abouts in the Bournemouth area are you i'm in Wimborne

Looks like I'm gonna have to take my car back to the dealer to complain about the paintwork first anyway. It was dark when I picked it up last night so I couldn't check it. Now I see it today in the light its in a shocking state! Big scratches all over the paintwork. Must have happened when they valeted it. Its like they dried it with a cloth that they had rubbed into the ground first! Its going to need at least a machine polish to get those marks out. I'm dubious if even that will remove all the marks :sad1:
-
Sounds about right, 99% of dealers have no idea how to treat a car. However just complain enough and they should pay out to have it done professionally, we've had quite a few customers who've managed to get the dealers to pay our invoice.
Good luck :happy2:

@GTi-Andy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10725) There's always Swissvax near you buddy, their UK head office is based in Knaresborough.
Very helpful people and definitely know their stuff!

As said, new cars can be sh*te or good.. depends... normally if it's a brand new car we would either get the car delivered straight from the dealer to us or get it brought in as soon as otherwise possible. It's best to stress on the dealer that you DO NOT WANT THEM TO WASH, POLISH, OR PREPARE THE CAR for you.
Many will often try to be like "oh we can't deliver a dirty new car to you" - but you need to enforce upon them that you do not want it washed or polished..
We managed to do a brand new F30 335 xdrive in one late afternoon..arrived at something like 3pm and he drove it away at 10) -
that was driven from the dealer to the unit and we even managed to cquartz it ... only a few sections on a few panels needed any sort of polishing work and fortunately they were fairly light so came out in one or two passes with a fine abraisive so no need for refinement.
Usual is 2 or 3 days (but this depends) and usually around the £200-300 Mark...the last new car detail we did was a Fiesta from my memory which came in at £220 or there abouts with a decent wax... Cquartz Ceramic coating would add another £150 or so to the price as we need the car for longer really to let the coating properly cure and the extra time of application. this is what i had on my GTI and it was still beading away after 6 months without any top up products applied.
at end of the day we generally give a fixed price and sometimes you get less work than anticipated and sometimes (nearly always) you get more but that's the way it goes.
The normal cost for an enhancement is around the £350 on a Golf Mk5 sized car (most of our work is enhancements which gives you the kind of difference you get is as below) ..

We are based in Newbury but a bit far away from you- Although I have a few write ups in the detailers section if you were so interested and there's always the train home :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
Cheers for that Jay. I wish I had asked them not to wash it now! However with it being a pre-reg car it had been on the forecourt for a while already, so it may have had several gritty washes before I got it anyway. I'm still waiting to hear what they are gonna do to correct the sh*te paintwork. However i'm sure it will still benefit from some professional treatment afterwards.
I am aware of the quality work that you do and if you were closer then I think I would be paying you a visit. I don't suppose you have heard of any places with good reputations in my area at all?
-
If you were so inclined, most places offer that Supagard crap as a "treatment" for £300... say you'd rather the dealer pay towards a professional detail.
I haven't used them myself and I have aboslutely no affiliation with them, but I've seen a lot of good work from http://www.envyvaleting.co.uk on Detailing World... very local to you too.

Yeah they did offer me lifeshine for £200. I have read on here before that its no good, so I declined that.
Cheers for that, I had a look and the seem to do good work, but thats still over an hours drive from me. I'm going to see whats available in the Poole/Bournemouth area.
-
To be fair you would need to be prepared to travel somewhat if it means the job is done really well - we have had people from as far as Plymouth! But fingers crossed matey :drinking:

Cheers pal. Yeah I wouldn't mind a bit of travel if I knew I could get a loan car while its done. I really can't be without a car. I'll have to see what the dealers do about my paintwork first and then see if I can find anything.
-
Drop it off on a Friday evening, collect on a Saturday night/Sunday morning.
A Protection detail can easily be done in that time period. You'll be hard pressed to find any detailers that have hire cars, opens up a whole new ball game with insurance etc :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL: would make life a whole lot more easy tho.

Im jay at miglior btw... I have a courtesy car. We have customers much much further away. We do the best work possibly, and whilst we don't try to be expensive, its normally the high side of things purely of how much we do. Price is one thing, value is another.. i promise you will not get better value there with me. I can also promise, you'll get a cheaper job! :)
I also have a courtesy car, its a 2013 corsa SRI.
I believe in providing the best, so thats why I have a courtesy car. Its in birmingham at the minute though! lol

Cheers, sounds great but even with a courtesy car going oop north for it would be a bit excessive I'm afraid!

No worries, that was the other guy that posted on here earlier. I'm in the South!

enterprise do cars from £16 per day
it amazes me how people want work done to their cars but don't actually want to leave it lol
you wont find better than jpc, don't know his prices now a days, but we still only refer to him for the stuff we don't do (like soft top roof's on porches)
you do need to go off recommendation though as a lot of the people who 'detail' etc showing the before and after pics actually havn't done much and you can still see the imperfections in the reflection
-
Yeah there are a lot of valeters who charge double the money for a "detail" but do a poor job
-
The thing that annoys me personally are people who don't show decent before and afters, using decent, fixed lights and photo angles. You can hide so much using different angles or moving lights slightly.
Nothing is ever going to be perfect. But being upfront to your customers and getting the best result is important.
-
Homesqueeze did you get your car sorted? Find anyone good local? Im in Corfe Mullen

Nope not yet, haven't had a proper look yet. Still waiting to get the dealer to fix all the scratches that they have put in it before I can get around to thinking about a detail.
-
Scratches?
Be careful as often they make it worse.
We've had 2 or 3 cars in now direct from Audi after they have messed up a "valet" lol

Yeah, the paintwork has lots of straight scratch marks in various places. It looks like they have used a blade to dry it and it had grit on it. Not sure if it will even polish out, but I have to give them a chance to fix it.
-
For anyone who's interested I've just got my car back from a correction polish by a very good very local company. Got it done by Waxing Lyrical in Verwood
http://www.waxing-lyrical.com/
It is just a small one man operation but he knows exactly what he's doing and has decades of experience. Reasonable prices too which is good, but fortunately managed to get the dealer to pay for the work as it's them who ruined it to start with! Very pleased with the results, the car is now looking how it should for a new car! Also got him to debadge it while he was at it.
