I have a DSG gearbox, so I thought adding some multifunction goodness to my steering wheel would be fairly straightforward and to be honest, it is. I am doing lots of interior upgrades at the moment and I managed to pick up the left hand wheel insert thingamie on eBay the other week for a decent price. However, I haven't seen a right hand one anywhere so I popped into my local dealer today and asked for a quote only to find out that they want £90.93 for it... Yikes!
Remember, this is just the wheel insert with the buttons and only the right hand one at that... £90? That's outrageous. So, the question is, is there anywhere else I can get this part (part number 1K0959538EREH) and if so can I get it at a more realistic price?

Try PM'in Deako, he helped me out with this, have a look on ebay.de, they have the set and loom on there for around £40
Deako is your man though!
-
if you find out can you let me know? i want a set too!
-
PM sent - Thanks Prepree!

www.ebay.de is the place to find these things, I just found exactly the item I wanted for 20 Euros, bargain!
I also spotted a complete set for sale (both inserts and the control module) as well for 65 Euros:

good stuff mclovin!!
-
Do these just fit to the standard wheel? Is anything else needed apart from some coding?
-
if you have dsg you dont need the control box...as far as i know
-
You carn't fit them to a standard wheel though cos there is no cutouts for the wiring, the DSG already has the controller and the cutouts so its easy to put the buttons in,
Darren
-
Thought it sounded too easy! Wouldnt be possible to "make" cut outs for the wires!?
-
once i plug em in, do i need to code them too?
-
needs coding in the steering wheel module 16 on vcds just to tell the steering controller the buttons are there.

Just an observation but isn't the UK MFSW with different buttons to those that mclovin just pointed out?

I got mine from this seller - mine are the MFD/OK button version though so he/she obviously can get either. Great seller as well, they only took three days to arrive and were really well packed.
Ended up buying a full set from Germany after I was pipped at the post by someone else on Ebay who was bidding on the same left-hand set I was, back at the end of October....... :signLOL:
-
The buttons that Mclovin just pointed out are the early type 2 phone buttons, the new type only have 1 phone button and a mute button a star.
Darren
-
So if you've got a manual g'box its too much effort & £££££s to get s/wheel buttons?
-
You could always get a new wheel!
Its a pity the button fitting isnt an option though. Is there no way to make holes for the wires? Ive never seen that area of the wheel so i dont know.

Sorry about that Mark... I really wanted that left hand set!

I noticed that, so that means the left hand buttons I outbid Mark for are the newer type with up/down volume buttons, a star button and a phone button which is great. This is the right hand set I just bought:

I noticed the seller has two more left which might help out someone. Although the seller still hasn't got back to me with a total price including UK P&P, despite me sending me a message in my very best German (thank you Google Translate)... Hopefully it won't be an issue!
-
Sorry about that Mark... I really wanted that left hand set!
No probs mate, what is it they say about great minds? And what's that got to do with us anyway
-
i send them messages in English.....they have all learnt it from the age of 5 so i have never had a problem.
-
Mclovin they are the new type so will work with the RNS510 just fine, apparently the old type buttons dont work well with the RNS510.
And has for german translation DONT most of them dont like it some take it as an insult, just send them a message in english if they dont understand they'll translate it themselves.
Cheers
Darren
-
Thanks for the advice, luckily this seller didn't seem to mind too much! All sorted now and they should be on their way to me sometime tomorrow. Perfect.
So, that's the RNS-510 fitted, the amp and bluetooth to go in over the weekend and then the cruise control and MSFW buttons to do the weekend after that, lots to do!
-
Mclovin - who's doing your cruise fitment? And cost?
-
You could always get a new wheel!

HTH :happy2:
-
Lol, brilliant VC. So are the button blocks just the same depth as the cap thats removed? Whats behind the wheel? could a hole not be drilled between the 2 holes the buttons pop into?
-
Mclovin - who's doing your cruise fitment? And cost?
Erm... That'll be me then, not going to charge myself anything either - Bargain!
-
Thats odd - I charged myself a pint to fit my RNS510. Still a bargain!
-
theres only the right hand ones available but you need both right? sorry for my stoopidness but can i fit buttons as i have DSG but dont have the highline :sad1:
-
Yep, you will need both sides, I had already picked up the left hand ones on ebay UK. You can fit them pretty easily if you have DSG as everything you need is already installed in your steering wheel, the only 'tricky' bit is removing the airbag. You don't need the highline installed to use these as far as I'm aware although as I have the highline myself I haven't looked into this in any great detail.
-
Does anyone know whether the Inserts that have the buttons already, come off or how are they fastened to the wheel, as i would like to try out some CF wraps.
-
thanks for that mclovin i better wait until i can find both then, thinking about the highline clusters for 110, hmm :happy2:
and phil, dont you think youve got enough bloody fake carbon fibre!! :P
-
Anyone got a guide to installing these MFSW buttons on to a steering wheel that already has the DSG paddles and controller box/unit?
I want to buy some but unsure how to fit
Answers on a postcard please
Cheers

Don't know if anyone is interested (or even if it's allowed), but I have a full set of post 2005.5 (i.e the later set that Darren mentioned with the one phone button and star button) steering wheel buttons up for sale.
It's both button sets, with ribbon cables including the little controller box. (as per photos below).
If anyone is interested before they go on fleabay, then send me a PM.

Well guys, I was going to move this into the "for sale" section (sorry mods) , but had lots of immediate responses, and they are now provisionally sold. Many thanks to all those that were interested.
Cheers

-
Hi mate.Don't suppose you have part numbers for them?
-
Gents,
Sorry to dig this one up, but wondering if anyone is interested in trying to get hold of some of these 'new style' buttons?
Am I correct in saying that in an Edition 30 with DSG (2007) these should be a straight fit?
I would deffo prefer this option because it is cheaper, but more importantly because it means I can retain the ED30 red stitching rather than having a standard MFSW from a normal GTI.
TIA
Matt
-
Would be interested also,mine is a 2006.
Dealer price is around £70 + vat per side :surprised:
-
I might pay that... IF that is all it costs... IS that all it costs lol?
Aside from the VCDS bit o' course...
Matt
-
I've done this, it's just a simple job of removing the air bag, undo wire to flappy paddle, undo torx screw, pull ribbon cable from steering wheel and unplug from controller. Refit in reverse order but with substitute buttons. DISCONNECT battery first. There are several different types of button, at least three that I am aware of. Mine is in for coding tomorrow, but all buttons are working with no problems.

Thanks mate,
Would you be kind enough divulge the PN's you bought and where from (price even)??
I am unsure if the DSG ED30 wheel requires the 'control unit' or not as well - can you confirm?
Cheers
Matt
-
You have PM :happy2: Mine are the earlier type buttons, I think they are better as no gaps at edge of buttons to get dirt and dust into.
-
Thanks bud!

Stephen would mind sending me a PM with the same info.Thanks.

Rather than keeping part numbers and prices private, it might be more useful to post the details up here to help others. :happy2:
-
The part numbers are not private and are available on this site, see my post here.

These are not the correct buttons for a 2007 car but do fit and work with no problems. As regards price I paid £72.50 including P&P and Pay Pal fees, the buttons were actually £60. Hope this helps.
As regards the control unit, if you have the paddles on the steering wheel they are simple plug and play.
-
when on the german ebay, what should you search for for the MFSW buttons?
-
sorry to jump on a thread but i have a set of older rubber style ones 2005 ones i think for sale £60 if anyones interested.
-
Any pics and where did they come from?

Hi all!
I have been reading up on a few threads and maybe im slow but can I get a few things straight
MFSW buttons will work with a GTI wheel with DSG? Yes
Is it a simple plug and play job or do I need to faff around with the airbag?
I am going to look at a GTI DSG at the weekend and I want to put the MFSW and Navi into it because it doesnt have them. If i buy these buttons on eBay is it as simple as popping off the blanks and pressing in the buttons? Any link to a DIY guide with pics?
Thanks :happy2:
