Title: My MkV GTi
Post by: cfsmale on February 20, 2015, 07:01:47 pm
Hi All! just said hello in the new members section earlier today!

thought id start a thread with my cars progress since buying an unmolested 2006 Lc9z , DSG Gti!
id been looking for the right Gti for a few months and had already started buying parts for when i finally got my hands on one!
Searched the country high and low for a car with the spec i wanted - finally found one near Rochdale, the car was with its second owner from new and had extensive service history! i bought the car in October!

a couple of pics of the car the day i bought it, this was after the 7 hour drive home and a swift wash....

the Monzas look ok in photos however they were wrecked and the inside of the wheels were pitted and flaking and serious kerbing etc.....my OCD kicked in and they had to be removed immediately as they really let the car down - i had bought a set of 19" Audi Rotors before getting the car and threw them on along with my sportline springs i also had waiting in the garage! they will do until the worst of the salty roads are past and ill sort out some new wheels....decisions though, as much as i love CH's,LMs,etc etc id like to do something different????? any suggestions welcome!

some pics with the wheels/suspension fitted....not to everyones taste!not completely sold on it myself, but they will be swapped out for something new shortly!!

next i decided to stick on a bluefin stage 1 map just to tide me over until i decided on an exhaust, got a fuel pump etc etc, then i will have it live mapped, not a fan of generic maps however very impressed with the bluefin for a plug and play job!

 :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

next....to the interior!

stuck some carbon paddle extensions on, not to everyones taste, but i like them!

then decided i wanted an Alcantara steering wheel... couldn't be hooped with removing the wheel to send away or buying a second one, so out with the needle and thread and a few fiddly hours later...WALA!

i left the wheel overnight to let the alcantara settle, then it was finished,a nicer daylight shot.....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fah282%2Fcraigfarquhar85%2F404376D4-0BC3-4A1E-966D-A8B6BD241AB9_zpsltboyogq.jpg&hash=8b4939daea16e9387a27fc96bde5dab6b5d86bcb)

im happy enough with it - again maybe not to everyones taste but it was cost effective and i think it looks pretty good!cost next to nothing!

next i did a Mod to my rear lights - ive probably got some photos on a memory stick somewhere of how i did it but heres a photo of the finished article

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fah282%2Fcraigfarquhar85%2FF8E9755A-2916-4F8E-AF07-4943E19CC6C9_zpsbliizsjj.jpg&hash=82f92bc96ee9e2b854188ef288abcc8e6c583641)

this is the car almost up to date.....

yesterday i carbon dipped my boot handle/rear emblem....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fah282%2Fcraigfarquhar85%2F88DDA520-E0B5-4A0A-9533-39ED8E257AF6_zpsq5zq3ccd.jpg&hash=b9057f9b40fe3192ae8b3d915c72f573790dcfbc)

and i also bought an R32 rear bumper section which i painted in LC9z this morning.....
looks a bit gunmetal grey in this pic but sun was beaming in my garage window!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fah282%2Fcraigfarquhar85%2FF465FB90-F229-4DCA-99A0-0FFC40530AB3_zpspftzbrpp.jpg&hash=c13138e6f0e60967dca4653351d8ac9ae50f2e87)

window tints are coming off, they were the only modification the lady who owned the car previously had carried out!
theres also a hard pipe intake and induction kit been fitted since i bought it - no pics at present

i will hopefully take delivery of Akrapovic exhuaust im having made on monday, then i can fit the bumper and exhaust with sports cat , HPFP, Red Top Coil Packs and a live map in the next couple of weeks.... :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

sorry for the huge post! ill try and keep this up to date from now on... cheers for reading

I've just checked out the akrapovic website and me likes!:)  But in the selection they only seem to do mk6? Did you phone up and get one for the mk5?

Not a fan of the steering wheel but I am very impressed with what you've done.

Cheers guys! The steering wheel retrim is completely reversible, but i quite like it now!

And yeah thats right Akrapovic only have a mk6 system on the website, but i have a friend who has a contact within the company who i pretty much begged for his help! I think ill be one of very few with one of their systems on my mkv....

Really liking this build already! Nice job!
Like what you've done with the steering wheel except the stripes at the top... It should've been red to match the GTI theme imo...

Sounds like a good idea!
You should try getting the grill sprayed gloss black, they look good imo..

That steering wheel.... Love it! Agree with the stripes should stick to red to match! Where did you get that from as I loved the jcw steering wheel in my mini which was Alcantara! I'd need yellow stitching to match Pirelli theme tho!

Lovely build tho massive fan on the rotars!

I was thinking about doing the grill gloss black on mine. Never saw one but but I should think it would look a lot cleaner

another small update.... took delivery of the exhaust today, unfortunately they forgot to load the sportscat into the package, so it will be with me in the next week .....  i couldn't resist but take a sneaky pic of the carbon tailpipes on the r32 bumper i have waiting to go on....i really like the stealthy look of the carbon exhaust, they should be a nice flush fit with the bumper but they are just propped in position for the purpose of this pic
