Title: Small scratching sound in second gear

Hi guys. Every now and then I have noticed a small scratching sound when releasing the clutch in second gear. Only every now and then, it's a very faint sound and at no more than 10-15 mph. Any ideas?

I've got a sound like this when I pull away in 1st gear atm and it's because the exhaust mount rubber has split so the exhaust knocks against the car. Might be something similar for you?

Sounds like I have the same thing, I had a feeling it might be exhaust related rather than transmission but mine tends to disappear as the car warms up, is that the same with yours?

When mine is cold it will do it but doesn't do it as often when it's warm, though after I've been giving it the beans it will do it quite badly then. Get your car on a ramp and have a look underneath to make sure none of the exhaust is making contact with the body anywhere.

Got a new one, just need to fit it now but I think I'm going to use some tigerseal where the prongs go into the rubber just so it doesn't happen again.

The ABS pump performs a self-test after you start the car and get to 12mph. You can hear it faintly, sort of like a 'scratching' sound. It could be this that you're hearing

Does it do this only once? Because my car makes the noise multiple times until it's warmed up.

Yeah only once per journey. I guess that rules it out then!
