Title: Removing window tint
Post by: K1_MBR on February 24, 2015, 10:23:05 pm
Car I've bought has a sun strip - top tint thing in the windscreen. Whats best way to remove it without leaving glue residue all over the screen?

is it stuck on or between the two pieces of glass ? if its stuck on it will lift with a hair dryer and petrol on a rag will clean the glue off with ease , if its in the glass your stuck with it until you change the screen

Its on the glass as I can feel the lip. I'll get some heat on it and peel it off, it was how to deal with any residue I was worried about...I'll try panel wipe in leiu of tardis!

Leave the heater on and get it as hot you can.
Help it with a hair dryer for gentle heat, not a hot air gun.

Lift a corner with a razor blade, and pull it SLOWLY whilst following it with the hair dryer.
If it starts 'jumping' you're pulling too fast and it will leave glue.

Clean up any bits of glue with thinners and razor blade carefully!

Managed to get it off today, got the window hot - then threw a few kettles full of hot water over it. Glue was removed with a mix of thinners and AG Tar and Glue remover. Nightmare of a job, never again!
